Our ND does scratch their ears and shake their heads often - maybe too often. I've looked in their ears and see nothing, no lice etc. But as narrow as their ears are I wonder if I am seeing far enough.

(truth is DH is more worried than I am) We have a baby monitor in the barn and the "ear shaking" wakes him in the night. :)

What am I looking for with ear issues?

Why do you have a baby monitor in the barn??? Do you have any pregnant???

Mine will do that to get fly's off them during fly season. They may have ear mites??? But usually they will be scratching too when they have mites...and you would see some junk in their ears...it would most likely be visable junk too.

x2 on the visible gunk in the ear for mites...although their ears can take on a gray appearance too (it's a thin film). If you think it's mites, get some VetRx and put onto a cotton ball and swab the ears.

If it's flies, use a fly repellent. Although hopefully the weather makes those a non-issue soon.

When looking for fly repellant, the only stuff I found says for "horses and dogs only" Wasn't sure it was safe for goats.

And I have a baby monitor in the barn because I'm overly protective and slightly paranoid

The ears look clean to me, and they do not have mites or creepy crawlies any where else. DH asked me to post the question, so I posted the question. (apparently I'm not they only one with issues) :p
