I think I'll have Pepper do his does tomorrow and get all tired and then I'll do his feet when he's all spent. That will definitely help our relationship.
I'm actually surprised. I know Pepper is older than Pete was but Pete got 6 does in one afternoon and settled 5 of them that August day and the one he didn't was a difficult nubian. Pepper appears to be all talk and meaness, but can't put his money where his mouth is when working (beyond 3), the opposite of Pete. They act like they want it all, but when he got it all...
Anyway, now I've got this creep popping up putting his head up behind the gate, making eye contact any time I go into other barn. And in the dark that IS creepy. He may have to go back after I'm done getting them covered and be put back away as the ND come into heat since he won't behave and let me get out anyone else.
Well, Emmi, aka, my beautiful dumptruck cycled, no assistance needed. She's milking through much to her dismay. I suspect Summer is also about to cycle because she started a war with one of the dry yearlings and didn't want to come in to milk this morning. She is also slotted for a milk through year because she's getting up there and it helps them last according to her breeder. Dot is my other milk through doe this year. No cycle from her.
One of the ND's I want to breed was blubbering at a pregnant doe this morning on the way to the stand. I'm hoping that means something around tonight.
Wow, 3 to milk thru....busy all winter But they do tend to slack quantity a bit. Do you ever make butter? The NDs usually cream more.
I'm probably gonna dry the one I'm milking after Thanksgiving. I don't like to milk in the cold! Besides, I'm the only one who uses the milk or whatever I make with it, beyond a couple friends. Of course, they expect delivery & I'm slacking off on that. My soaper likes to buy -- but it isn't regular/steady enough to keep up for that. Maybe next year.
