You'll certainly find all the info ya need to get started, and if ya don't, just ask. There are many knowledgeable people here that have a wealth of Experience that they are more than willing to "Share". As ya have stated in your "Reading" so far. Do ya have any animals at all yet? Do ya have a timeline on aquiring a place?
Out of those 30 chickens, what breeds are ya wanting to get? What is the long range goal with them?...to raise strictly for meat?...egg production?....show?....or, just for Fun?
Oh, and never hesitate to post some pics, we All just adore any animals.

Thanks, its good to be here!! All my livestock will be strictly for food purposes. The chickens will be for both meat and eggs. Thinking of rir's, sex links, and some australorps, so far. The goats will be for milk and meat as well, maybe even the sheep to. As for the cows and the pigs, they'll just be for meat.
I'm hoping I can get a place by the middle of the year to the end of it.

We've found a couple places that would be perfect for us but the whole process is going to take us some time!

I don't love the turkeys. But my husband does! They kind of freak me out, lol but they are pretty and delicious!

Lol. I'd like to have some myself, but with the wife and the rest of the livestock, I should have my hands full as it is, not to mention the garden.

Will you be moving your livestock down with you, or just starting over?

One thing ya will want to do from the start, is think of their "Protection" as you do move forward. Depending on the amounts of animals, diversity of animals, and the amount of space you have fenced...you may want to consider some LGDs. Otherwise, your "Dreams" may go up in smoke from the predators that can be faced, in the area that ya settle in, no matter the location. The variety of animals that you have, will draw the "Attention" of a list of predators, and if ya present a "Smorgasbord" of delacacies ya can attract a wider range and numbers of them. I sure hope things come thru for ya, and it sounds like an interesting "Adventure" to keep track of it as it developes before ya.

I've been researching pyrs lately, but don't know yet, how many animals it will take for them to be satisfied with their job. Also, plan on doing a joule or 2 of electric fencing for the herds. The chickens will have an enclosed run that hopefully will be large enough for them to sorta free range in. Its all a thinking process now. I do appreciate your advice!! Yeah, it will definitely be an adventure for sure, but I've been waiting for decades for it to happen!

I have been so "out of commission" lately (chronic pain issues my entire life...FUN).
Anyway... I had forgotten I had an account in this group, but through browsing around today, rediscovered it!
To reintroduce myself, I'm Dawn. Mommy to [the late :'( ,first two baby goats I had, shown in my profile pic: Mitchell and Buddy. R.I.P. boys, NEVER FORGOTTEN] And currently: 5 Nigerian Dwarf goats; Benjamin, Edward, Roux, and Clark [wethers] and Dahlia [doe].
I have a zillion other animals too, but that's for another time.
I just wanted to say this idea of being self sustaining is so terrific! I would love to do this as well at some point. The expense of everything is so ridiculous when I really look at it. And when you have some land, no matter the size really, it just makes sense to use it! I think some of the things kind of just take care of themselves, right? Like become perrenial?

If and when we move, we will take everyone with us. I don't know how the pigs are going to get down there, but everyone else will be fairly easy to move if we can find a decent sized horse trailer.

Welcome back. And yes some things are "perennial" but only with work. No matter what it is even your goats keep putting out kid's but require feed, shelter etc... Even perennials need their water and weading. Not that your not already aware and fully capable. Just a thought for some newbies that be reading this post.
Farm work never stops and is only successful as you make it. That's with $$$ to make things easier or more work because we at least I am trying to save money.
