How dose one go about registering a goat ? At what age ? Befor or after its sold ? Do the parents need to be ? Is it the Association of the breed ?:hu

Usually when I/my sister has bought registered goats the adults come with transfer papers from the registry. The babies she fills out the appropriate paper work and sends it with the babies at sale time. She has also registered the babies before she had sold them. It is really up to you how you wanna do it. As far as the parents, most associations require them to be registered I do believe. Depending on your breed you can find a registry. Like MGR or IFGA is for Fainting goats.

Our buck and does are registered so it definitely makes the process easier as far as registering goes. ;) I don't know if you can register any adults/ kids without having proof that they're what you say they are. Maybe someone else can expand on that for you.

It depends on what you want to do with the kids. With our goats, I register the doe kids before selling them. Wethers (and maybe bucks) are registered if the buyer wants them registered. I know for the mini-mancha (Nigerian & LaMancha crossed goats) project, there is a registry available; I'm not sure about the other mini- breeds though. :idunno Anway, for Nigerians, you can register them with the NDGA, AGS, or the ADGA. The AGS and the ADGA also register other dairy breeds (Alpine, Nubian, Toggs, and so on).

To go on with registering a goat, you need to choose a herdname and tattoo application and fill out the appropriate form for it. You will also have to join the association/ society and, at least with AGS, renew that membership each year. Once that's all said and done, you'll tattoo your kid (s), fill out a form for each kid, and send it in. Then you'll be good to go when they've sent the certificate of registration for your goat. Hope that helps to clear it up! : )

Oh that's great ( CCL and PC ) Exactly what I wanted to hear :bow:bowNow I know where to start. I'll be heading out in a few more months , to go get my Kinders. And I do believe that my seller is in the breeders associates for them.:celebrate:love

Most require the breeder to tattoo the kid before it leaves the breeder. Many do not do this. Ask the breeder to make sure that is done.

It really depends on the registry. Some allow percentage kids (sire registered, dam not). some allow "experimental as type" (non registered parents but look like the breed). You can use microchips or tattoos. Most of the kiko registries also require DNA testing. No idea about the dairy registries.

Ya..thanks SBC I started a list of questions for my breeder and I forgot about that.:weeeI'm going around like a chicken with its head cut off , just to sum up all the legalities . will be getting a call this mo. with a birth date:love

Many do chip but I prefer tattoing because who has a reader? You need to have a reader or your vet or someone needs to in order to verify. The tattoo is easy proof of who the goat is.

So excited and happy for you! :)

jodief100 ; thanks for your input..Although I believe my breeder is committed to the genetics of the kinder breed.:love

I think with Kinders the only option is the association.

I would assume they could tell you all you need to know, and the breeder you get them from should provide you the paperwork you need.

I know when we sell kids we have either already registered them, or we have tattooed them and provide the signed paper work for the buyer to submit.
