How adorable ! Congrats :) I love the smile on mama's face in the pic lol. Cold weather always makes me crazy with worry...but I'm learning that they can handle temps that seem unbearable to us! Good luck with the little one :)

I do have a stand, I've not tried to get her on it yet after she kidded. Before kidding, she wouldnt mind getting on and eating her grain and getting her toes clipped (somewhat), but she would never let us touch her teats... Now that she's kidded, if we give her grain in her little separate area, I think she kinda gets confused whether it is us touching, or the baby, so we've been a little more successful in touching her teats. I was going to try to get her on the stand this weekend, just to see if she'll be a little calmer, but she's not been separated from the baby since she's kidded. What do you suggest is the best way to do that? And what do you think (and when) is the best way to reintroduce momma and baby to the herd?

I would really like to milk her if she quits being so stubborn!

OH! And baby found the other teat! It just took her about a day or so.

Also, her udder doesnt seem to be very big. I know she's a FF, so it wont be as big as some of the pics I've seen (and she's quite fuzzy for the winter), but will it get bigger as time goes on? Will we be able to milk her? If so, when (generally)?

For the heat lamp, we were planning on weaning her off of it about a half hour (or an hour) at a time... It's been pretty nice here lately, so we were thinking of just a few hours at night (maybe 4 or 5 hrs)? I'm just so nervous of losing her!

I had a doe kid a week ago today, and I've been milking her for about four days now, I only take about a half to 3/4 of a cup a time, once a day, milking both sides so am leaving lots for the kid. I put the little guy on the stand with her, and the doe stands very nicely for me. Yesterday, I was milking one side, and the baby was nursing the other! Pretty sweet. I also put the heat lamp on for them, as the temps have been really low, but will start turning it off through the day soon. The last two days, I've been opening the door of the stall and they come out and the other goats go in, looking to eat any extra grain they can find. I see one of my other girls udder has gone boom so as I only have the one separate stall, I may be switching them out soon! The other goats seem fine with the kid, they sniff him and then pretty much ignore him. The buck is much more interested in the Mom, trying to get her interested, and she will have nothing to do with him. Good luck with yours, I wouldn't worry about the temp, as long as the kid is nursing it'll be fine.
