I have had dogs for most of my life and have lived long enough to have lost many. Losing Sassy is proving to be one of the hardest to get through.

She follows me everywhere that I go and it is like she wants as many pets as she can get. She still plays with Lance but even that is slowing down.
It really doesn't matter how many, it's always hard. But, yes, some are harder than others. I lost a lab (Hercules) and I think his loss hit me harder than any other pet I've had. He was always under my feet, protected me when we went for long walks, like yours, my constant companion! 💔
:hugs :hugs

Sassy is a heart dog. We've all been there with some that are just so much a part of our souls. While she's here try to not be buried in the pain. Try to let her see you are happy with her, give her every pet and take her out to lunch (BK does great plain burgers). Sadness is too heavy.

In some ways it is worse to know that it is coming... you project what it will be like without her there, already, even though she is still there...
When it is more sudden, you grieve the emptiness but you have a bit of a shock from it...plus you can remember every little thing and do the crying/anger/lost feeling.... this way you are anticipating how empty it will be.
Hugs to you and your special friend... while you can still give and get those hugs...

It was hot enough today that I decided I was not going to be out in it anymore than I had to be. Teresa went down to finishing cleaning a friends house since her oldest son and family are going to be spending some vacation time there. It is a house that the friend just bought and they have been working on it for a time. The house is nice and right on a lake so the grands can do some fishing and swimming right there.

I'm doing a beef brisket on the smoker that we will put in meal size portions in the freezer. The kids will be coming here Saturday and they love my BBQ so I picked up three slabs of ribs to cook for them.

I had a great visit with family and grandkids today. The youngest (Hattie) is a little over three years old and doesn't interact much with male relatives but for some reason, she acts with me like she is around me every day and she hasn't been with me since she was a baby. She was the same way today as when she was a baby and just grinned the whole time I would hold her.

So glad you got to have that time! 💞
Our 2yo granddaughter is the same way. She loves her grandpa! Now for grandma, she's the diaper changer and I'm snuggle worthy when no one else is around...lol
