My daughter's 4H group had an ultrasound day last weekend. The ultrasound showed that her doe is still open, although I think it might still be too early to tell. She was bred 5 weeks ago and did not go back into heat. We will be so sad if she is not bred as my daughter wants to show her in milk at the fair. What do you all think?

A good vet can usually tell at 4 weeks if they are pregnant or not. You could always have another ultrasound done. Another choice is to have a progesterone test done which is a blood test.

I know in alpacas, once in a while, that fetus can hide and even the best of vets can miss it. So that may be a possibility. But the only way to really find out is to have another test done.

maybe you guys are using different ultrasound technology over there to what we have here, but we only scan (ultrasound) at 45 days. At that point you can say yes/no and usually can start to count number of foetus' as well.
