So valbazen is approved for a broad range of worms in other animals but the label implies it only treats liver flukes in goats. Does it cover a broad range in goats but is just not approved for treatment yet or does it not work for the broad range of worms in goats like it does in other animals? Thanks.

yes, you can use it. It can even be used 3 days in a row for tapworms. But DO NOT give it to pregnant does.

Thanks, yeah I knew about the pregnancy thing. I have a young one with pale gums/eyelids that is not growing as quickly as the other two that are close in age and it was the only wormer I had on hand at the time so I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to run out and find something else. I gave it to her a couple days ago. When should she start to pink up again before I need to think about a second treatment?

Id' wait a bit. Eyes can take time to go back but sometimes they change like that. Do a fecal in 10 days and figure it out from there.

I would think about upping her quality of feed for a bit vs worming again right away. It can take a while for the eyes to pink back up on their own. My in the field type rational goes along the lines of " Your eyes are still pale and we just hit the X week life cycle turn over for what ever worms you have" Yep worming again. I try and up their protein levels if they are hard cases. One was being a horrible problem child and she got penned with nothing but alfalfa and we went through about an entire small bottle of safeguard in around 4 days and low and behold she turned around.

I am lazier about fecals than I should be because my vet is about 40 min in the wrong direction so I try and combine trips unless somebody is dire. I know, I know. I need to learn to do them myself. But the camera microscope is on the birthday list and that's for April so my plan is to start then.

It can take weeks to fix the anemia problem which causes the pale eyelids. Do another fecal at 10-14 days and if needed treat with a different class of de-wormer (ie: ivermectin).

Something else you can try in addition to the de-wormers, which I've been doing, is to feed them tea leaves to increase tannins in their diet as there is some anecdotal evidence that tannins will help prevent worms.

Oh interesting. Do you use spent tea bags or are you buying loose tea to add in?
You could do either. I've done both. Tannins are stronger prior to use (as tea) though.

Oohh. I'm going to try tea leaves. How much do you need to give? Is a tea bag's worth a good amount? Also, I have been babying her lately. I take her out of the pen and hand feed her as much as she'll eat once a day. Which isn't much and it takes forever because she's such a dainty, girly little thing. She's so adorable. She doesn't show much interest in the mineral either which concerns me. The other goats love it and eat it up pretty quickly so I only put it out daily so they don't get too much. Should I try to put a little mineral in her mouth each day and see if she picks up on it like the others?
