I’m absolutely NO expert and have zip experience in this, but I like your thinking.
I am not a dr. dr. type of person I think natural is better is all cases I went to a vet today only because I have no idea and everything on the internet basically says your goat will die . So to the vet I go. but I do know all bodies need good bacteria to digest food and anti biotics kill them. So I may also do pro biotic paste and chaffe hay with a bucket offering of ACV water to all the goats. I am going to keep an eye on him since I now have the whole day off work. He is worth it.

Is he peeing?? That's where urinary calculi cause problems. And any blood at penis? Sometimes the crystals create little nicks in the urinary tract. If he's NOT been peeing, you have a bladder rupture possibility. You can't just stand all day waiting for pee 😵‍💫 but, if you can pen him on a dry patch of shavings, you'll see the wet spot & can check periodically. Don't want to scare you but it's a fact.

Ammonium chloride is suggested for such calculi. But I gotta say, in 30 yr of goats, never had one with urinary calculi. Milk of magnesia is for intestinal help & we don't know but, I suspect the shots were antibiotics & maybe pain meds.

For probiotics use yogurt with such in it...you may need to thin some to syringe it. You may have this in your frig 🤣. Easy to do & full of good bacteria. You can even put the banamine in it -- one less syringe to squirt. Banamine is a little bitter, I always add some honey, or ---

Definitely look for signs of him urinating. Did he pee when you got him out of the car after the hour long ride? I used to show my goats so they spent time in a trailer going to shows. They would never pee while the trailer was moving, but they'd always pee when we stopped. Gas stations hated me, lol. Thought maybe he'd pee after the car ride.

Yes, probiotics would be beneficial. Yogurt, dark flat beer, Probios (commercial product in a tube) will all help.

Even if the vet is wrong about urinary calculi he definitely needs the antibiotic because that high temp is coming from somewhere. The Banamine will help with fever and pain. All good things.

Yes he is peeing. I saw him 2 times today about 3 to 4 oz each time. he is moving his bowels and it looks like healthy pelltes. His temp tonight after vet gave anitbiotics and injectable banamine his temp was down to 105.6 he was eating and moving around, not playing but walking about he ate some dried leaves and chaffe hay I did not give him grain and I think it confused him but he did get his little carrot nubs. I just dont feel like it is urinary calculi I know new to goats an all how I feel doesnt matter but I looked up the symptoms and he doesnt fit any of them. he has a fever and is slower than normal laying down more even his famacha is good.

Thank you so much for responding you have kept me level I thought the same thing about the antibiotics he did not pee at the vet when I got him out but yes he did twice when we got home. I would guess 3 to 4 oz but he hadnt had any water he wouldnt drink in the car and I havent seen him drink any I did add another bucket to the yard for him with 1.5 gal water quarter cup ACV and about 2 tbsp raw honey. but have not actually seen him drink anything.

Not scared of the facts that is what I am looking for. I even told the vet dont hold anything back you cannot offend me if I need to change something for his benefit. I am new and just want him to have a long healthy happy goattie life. He wont eat the Bermuda coastal hay and that is all I can find here in Texas, that or alfalfa and vet said less alfalfa and more coastal any tips to entice him to eat just hay?

Vets -- bless their hearts🙄 -- are often not well versed in goats. In TX they should be with all the goats that are there!! But it has often been thought alfalfa increases calculi. I know people who feed ONLY Alf and no issues. Try to find orchard grass or even orchard grass pellets -- Standlee prob makes them.

He feels crappy & now his food & water are changed. Yeah, he doesn't want any, thanks! 😉 You should see improvement once antibiotics take over. I'm fairly certain it was a broad spectrum type to cover all bases. My goats love carrots, apples, turnips, celery, bread and pumpkin. See if he'll eat any of those -- lift his spirits and blood sugar levels, without grain. He'll get back to forage as he feels better. Any fresh grass around?

You are very welcome! Us goat folks have to stick together!
I dont remember if I read it or heard it but I remember hearing that only 4 days total in veterinary medicine are about goats and general care and that even the educators really have no Idea how to keep goats. I want a vet that knows goats has experience and has kept a goat alive from pregnancy to birth to full long life. havent found that one yet. Which is why I am so grateful for the people here.
