When @RR Homestead has a little spare time I would be interested in the alternative route she took back, the one which was less stressful.

The elder friend who stays with us has come down with the sore throat crud. I ran to Wally World to pick up some Sudafed and a prescription. As I was driving north there was a line of black clouds moving in.

It's windy, now, no rain.

Because of idiots who let their dogs run loose to attack people Caleb will only be having (fenced in) backyard walks for the foreseeable future. I might take the lopper pruners with me next time we do, and cut back more privet shoots. :rolleyes:

Hot coffee this morning for sure. The cold front has arrived in East Texas. Happily it’s pleasant in sunny, sheltered spots and cool temperatures won’t last long. I kept the ewes near the barn this morning. Two look ready to deliver and I want to keep an eye on Moses although he’s been through lambing. Blind Hazel is getting around better. I think she has some distance vision. Baymule’s bottle lamb has reminded me to get ready for any coming my way. Presently the Lamb Tub is home to garden hose and an assortment of junk. I swear other people live here. The problem is they never seem to do anything except generate dirty dishes, dirty laundry and lose tools. They raid the fridge occasionally too. Off to check for new flock members. Have a great day everyone.

Mister Nobody living there?
:lol:
Mr. Nobody By Anonymous

I know a funny little man,
As quiet as a mouse,
Who does the mischief that is done
In everybody’s house!
There’s no one ever sees his face,
And yet we all agree
That every plate we break was cracked
By Mr. Nobody.

’Tis he who always tears out books,
Who leaves the door ajar,
He pulls the buttons from our shirts,
And scatters pins afar;
That squeaking door will always squeak,
For prithee, don’t you see,
We leave the oiling to be done
By Mr. Nobody.

He puts damp wood upon the fire
That kettles cannot boil;
His are the feet that bring in mud,
And all the carpets soil.
The papers always are mislaid;
Who had them last, but he?
There’s no one tosses them about
But Mr. Nobody.

The finger marks upon the door
By none of us are made;
We never leave the blinds unclosed,
To let the curtains fade.
The ink we never spill; the boots
That lying round you see
Are not our boots,—they all belong
To Mr. Nobody.

Lovely temps from morn are gone, plus winds are 20+ mph, plus misty rain. Talk about ruining a good day!

Just in case anyone has need -- I use this place for several "fish biotics" ... Always been fast & easy. Ya never know when your fish tank needs help 👍 pill form.

So glad to hear that you are safely back home! :hugs
Thank you so much! :hugs
Coffee is ready. I have a cute little ewe nestled down next to me in my recliner. Full tummy, she is taking a nap. New mom, didn't clean her off, lavished all her attention on the second one. I moved her to a jug when I got home from church, but the little one was too weak to suck, limp as a dish rag and cold. I wrapped her in a towel and a heating pad and held her all afternoon. I dribbled a few drops at a time in her mouth, just wasn't very hopeful. I put her in a dog crate when I did evening chores, expecting to come in and find her dead. I picked her up and she gave out a squall. I fed her an ounce of colostrum and held her, fed her until 11 last night. In between, she tottered around on unsteady tiny toes, followed Carson, surely he had milk! This morning when the alarm went off, so did she. Pictures on my lambing thread.

@RR Homestead I am so glad you are back, safe. Now get some rest and pack up for another trip. :love
Congratulations on saving the ewe! Always rewarding when they make it. I know the feeling of expecting to find them dead.
A good night's sleep - yay! Will be heading out to graze again. Temps today 46-71; 46 is normal-ish low and 71 in way high out of the normal range.
Thinking of weight lambs today. Gotta get that done and rain is forecast :lol: for Wed-Fri. :lol:

@RR Homestead glad you made it back with no troubles. I've done the coast to coast by myself with dogs -- but I was driving a motorhome (bringing all the comforts of home with me ;)).
Thank you! :hugsThis is my first travel without dogs. It was weird.

To MO this trip (and past) I went down south (CA) to AZ, NM, TX, OK then MO. This trip on the way back I went from MO to IA, NE, WY, UT, NV, CA. My opinion on each route is that the CA to AZ route felt far longer. A huge factor is I am pulling a trailer and going a long way in CA is miserable doing 55 mph only because of towing. All other states truck/trailers do the standard speed limits as posted. Doing over 8 hours slow really drags things on. On top of it the traffic and rude drivers are exhausting in CA. The roads on this route were awful. CA has bad roads but AZ was by far the worst. NM roads were rough too. Things started really taking a beating in the trailer once I got into AZ. There's only a couple passes on this route to be cautious of for weather on this route in winter. The way back was far more comfortable. The roads were far smoother. Speeds were much faster. Traffic was far less. People on the roads were better until NV where it seemed like they were more CA driver like. I did hit sudden snow squalls in WY that weren't predicted but made it through and even with that would still go this way again. There are more states this route to worry about winter weather with it seems like. Yesterday I was listening to Ryan Halls live stream and several places in a couple states were facing severe weather. Place I drove through the day before. So it's definitely a risk going this route but still I feel it's probably worth it as long as I'm willing to park and wait for the weather to pass if needed.
If I didn't answer enough or you have any questions let me know. My brain is pretty fried so thoughts are a struggle right now. :hu😂

Good afternoon all!
Got up a bit ago. Got some much needed sleep but don't feel very rested. Woke up early with a whopper migraine. Thinking maybe it's with drawls from whatever that truck stop coffee is supposed to be I mainlined the entire trip home. 😂 I may have to come up with a plan for my own coffee next trip. Have a few tweaks I plan to do next run but all in all it was pretty successful.
Did some clean up in the house before sitting down with coffee. Now catching up on the forums and getting a few things done online. Will get back up in a bit and get back to cleanup and more packing. Not sure when the next run will be but will keep packing until the trailers full again. DH got more packed while I was gone but had his hands full with the storms and our main milker getting mastitis. Crash course for him on that but he did awesome. I guided him via video call and he got her almost cleared up before I made it home. She's definitely producing less milk since cutting her grain off right before I left. Now to decide if I am going to graft new calves on her before next run. The two that are on her should already be weaned. I'd love the income from shipping the monster holstein/jersey on her. That would pay for this first trips fuel. Maybe leave her natural calf on, pick up two new calves and ship the cross. Then once the new grafts are on and keeping up well enough wean her calf. He'll stay for future meat. Need to draw blood today and check her for pregnancy. Hoping she's finally bred. She didn't come back into heat post breeding this time but since she's been struggling this breeding season I can't use that as a confident "she's bred" sign. If she is finally bred this will be the last grafts for this lactation. End of january we have a heifer calving so we'll have plenty of milk from her and can dry up the old girl and give her a slightly extended rest before calving again. All this is stressful at the moment with moving in the mix but we'll figure it out. Thank you @farmerjan for the advice through this! :hugs Seems i'm overthinking and under thinking things right now. 😂
Hope you all have a great day!

Thanks, I was curious. My dad lived in an RV for 30 years post retirement, spent most of that time seeing the western US, eventually spending the summers in the mountains of northwestern NM, into Colorado. I want to make at least one drive west of the Mississippi to see some of the plains and Rocky Mountains that he spoke of. Caleb would be my copilot.

Today is hubs birthday. Yesterday he tells me, I just got invited to play golf on my birthday (he plays with the same guys every Monday, they text each other😂). I tell him, you can play golf if you want to, it's your birthday, then I say, why wouldn't you, you played on mine...:lol:

Have a lovely day everyone! 💗
