Hi, I have one cow that i just purchased at the end of December, she's a mini Jersey cow. She's the only cow we have, we have goats as other herd animals. She doesnt hang out with them very much. She's about 7 months old now. We feed her o/a hay, a little corn, sunflower seeds, cow cubes, minerals, there's a salt block, and alflafa cubes. She has 5 acres of graze and pasture. She started having bad skin issues about two weeks ago. Only slightly below her neck between the shoulders on her upper back. The hair is falling out and the skin is dry. Ive been putting lotion on her back and gave her a shot of duramate that has probiotics, enymes, and vitamins. She recieved that about a week ago. The skin is still dry only in those areas. I don't think it's worms because her poop is normal and she sleeps in the barn with the goats and there's alot of goats. No one has skin issues but her. It's getting a little worse. Never owned a cow. A little guidence would be super helpful with this.

Welcome to the forum first of all! Glad you've joined us.
Where are you located approximately? Sounds like it could be ring worm (common this time of year in many places) or itching hair off from lice. Do you by any chance have any pictures?

Thank you happy to be apart of this community, nice to be able to ask others that have more experience in these situations 🙂
I live in central florida north of Orlando. Those are her only patches and that's on both sides of her right below her neck and her skin in that area is dry 🙏

I wouldn't worry about what I'm seeing in that picture. Looks normal for this time of year. You might want to look close for mites or give her a treatment for mites. She's itching it. That's why the hair is missing. All of our beef and dairy cows do that on and off this time of year usually from mites.
