This morning after a couple corrections Caleb WAITED ON THE TOP STEP! Once I stepped on the driveway I gave him his release word and he came down.
:celebrate

We saw LOTS of kitties and squirrels on the late morning walk around the neighborhood. I let Caleb stare, but reminded him "off" = no touch.

That's Wisp on the left, our own TNR kitty that sat and quietly confronted Caleb in the backyard. She's a cool customer!

Caleb did well on his walk, even when walking by houses with packs of barking dogs in their backyards. He was anxious, but once I got him to sit and relax some, he got praise and chest rubs.

Caleb is doing much better on Wait when I go down the steps. Twice today I didn't have to remind him. But then he blew it by launching himself at an outside kitty.

I had a morning dental appointment, but have been inside for the rest of the day, doing some chores like laundry. And for most of that time Caleb's been loose in the house, only needing one Time Out, and that in late afternoon.

The last ten minutes he's been content to destroy a rope toy. I like how he's amusing himself.

Nevermind.

Caleb saw a kitty and all sense left him.

I stood on the bottom step for about five minutes refusing to let him leave the top until he sat. He finally submitted, whew. No physical control aside from the leash, which was slack, mostly.

I AM THE MOM.

It's tough to listen when there are kitties.

I think we've reached Stage 2, the acting out, the little rebellions now that he feels safer, more secure. Caleb's has had 3 TO already in about two hours. He keeps jumping on me, not listening. I just let him out of the crate, as he'd calmed down. He laid down near my feet.

He's getting it.
