With the youngsters sometimes they just get overtired. One of mine a long time ago (geeze I say that a lot lately) - Nikon, she was a great dog, trust her with anything anytime. But as a pup she would get overtired. For her, she got bitey - so it turned into when she got that way she had to take a nap in her crate in the bedroom with the crate and the room door closed. Kinda the same thing as your time-out. They grow out of it.

I've noticed that Caleb acts up more in the late afternoon, like a tired child.

Improvement is he is going into his night crate without needing a leash, and once inside no whining or barking.

Mom didn't listen. :D =D

...for now...

...as a big delivery is expected in the next 20 minutes.

Today's big project was creating a barrier between my chicken coops and the rest of the yard, so Caleb doesn't have to be on a leash all the time. He scares the chickens if he gets close, and I don't want them to injure themselves in their panic.

The barrier came down, not the best option.

I had the privacy fencing, but I had an "Aha!" moment while in the shed...plastic fencing!

I had a lot.

I attached the end to the back of Coop Deux, with zip-ties.

Next I used cup hooks on the back of the small shed.

But how would hold it up across the yard? I have a few 3' T posts, not tall enough.

Found these in the shed, stakes for electric fencing, never used.

Why not?

I wove the stakes through the fencing, but it kept sliding down, the stakes were smooth. I used electrical tape to secure it, a temporary fix.

I put two more cup hooks on the back of the big shed to hold the end of the fencing, then laid a section of fence over it as another deterrent.

I used a similar method to block off the south side.

Next, releasing Caleb...will it work?

I took Caleb outside on leash about 4pm, then hooked him to the cattle panels for a few minutes while I took care of my chickens. I covered my vegetable beds with plastic as the forecast is for temperatures to drop into the mid 20s tonight. Then I double-checked the backyard for cats. Once clear, I released Caleb. Wow can that boy fly! He did circuits around the backyard at breakneck speed for several minutes, then I leashed him and walked around the front yard to calm him down.

He's eaten his dinner, and is now amusing himself with his toys.

New mattress and frame were delivered about noon. I put Caleb in his crate, then opened the door and let two BIG men in the house, football player big. They dismantled the old bed, removed the frame and mattress, then set up the new one. They were done in less than 15 minutes.

And then I realized that Caleb hadn't barked or made any noise while the delivery men were going back and forth!

Mom invited them in, Mom was calm, Caleb could be calm, too.

I let Caleb have a run in the backyard after lunch, but didn't see Wisp sunning herself under a tree. I yelled but Caleb had already spotted her, and was immediately on top of a startled Wisp. I got a glimpse of her on her back, front legs clawing away, then she was up and over the fence.

Wisp came by later while I had Caleb on a leash. I saw no sign of injury, and she didn't appear to be traumatized. She actually walked up quite close, much to Caleb's frustration.
