So it would take 2 solid ones to give you the same height as the ones with the holes in them... so nearly twice the cost..... Any kind of boards are going to last only a couple years... BUT, certain types of cedar are more rot resistant. Red heart cedar lasts longer... I don't think they are making the boards out of that..Placed inside the bed?
Concrete "cinder" blocks aren't terribly expensive. The 4x8x16 solid are about .30 less than the 8x8x16 cored types.
If I rebuild my beds using blocks it will cost about $80 per bed.
I would either line the inside of sides with some sort of tin siding to prevent the wet dirt from being against the boards,lay it down longways along the inside. Of just use some short t-posts like you did.
