I slept until 7, was up several hours in the night. Fed Mabelline and Tinkerbelle, put them outside, cleaned the dog crate and put down new potty pads. On my second cup of coffee. I'm going to use round pen panels to make an enclosure for Max the horse, in the back of he house. Then I can give him more attention because he'll be closer. The sun is out, It was 18 degrees an hour ago, up to 20, and will go to 36, then back down to 19 tonight.

Morning all! Currently 22° this morning, supposed to hit 34° today. Looks like highs and lows will be above freezing by Wednesday. Looks like we will also have some rain Wednesday- Friday, time will tell. Just very thankful that it shouldn't be freezing rain.

Heading to town today for appointments and grocery shopping. Hopefully there won't be any black ice on the roads.

Stay safe and warm! 💞

47 going to where it shouldn't be 70 . I know you all think that's not bad, but around here things are already getting dry in spots (meaning plants starting to brown). Day of chores and whatever comes along here. Oh and for trees that require chill hours to fruit it's going to be a sad year esp if this keeps up. Even for those that have been bred for this climate requiring low chill hours.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I was a little concerned about the chill hours up here too. I think we're going to be okay now, but just have to wait and see. I hope your temps start to normalize and you get some rain.

Morning all. We were spared single digit temperatures last night. Both Maremmas did fine. The sheep seem to be coping. Have found no casualties. Barn tub water froze but not like the outside water. Both broken for drinking. 1/4 inch ice and then1/2 inch snow/sleet combo so walking is better. I think it will be warmer then colder than expected today and tonight. Lasko heater kept bottle lamb at 60 degrees. Looks like my fruit trees will have their chilling hours. Yaktrax it is @Poka_Doodle thanks.

Adorable little buggers.
:love

The cross calf looks a bit like a deer, but the head tilt of the Holstein is too cute!
He's very cute. He reminds me of a giraffe. 😂 Long fine legs that go their own ways. 😂 He has his moms face and bum. Or lack of bum. 😂
And look at the green grass in the background!! 😊

Cold and iced over here....that winter catastrophy that happened. Not heating up this week, it's messy!

:caf is my plan for another half hr. Then I'll suit up & get to chores. Job work scheduled but I'll walk to the road before I make that decision -- go or reschedule. Main roads will be fine, just a couple back roads to consider, maybe 3 miles of. At least it's a long day at only one store. Warmer now than yesterday.
We are growing grass. Have been for a while. Super early for us. No nutrition to it yet. Probably because we've not had actual sun in a long time. We get a day here and there but mostly been fog for a long time. We aren't normally mowing this time of year. Wild weather. Still lots of mud.

I got only a skiff of snow but, ICE !!!

So looked at car and it was totally, solid iced...1/4-1/3" 😱 couldn't even get a hold of door handles to try to open. Hood, top, trunk & entire driver side...just a slick of ice. With effort, got the passenger side open. Started it & 20 min later I could start getting some off. Never before! Took also an hr to rescue it. I need to go to work tomorrow -- no time for that in AM. Supposed to be 1* at get up. Roads are clear, thanks to prior brining.

In attempt to prep for quick feed in morning, I broke some ice, to allow drinking. Hammer going hard, and I find TWO layers of ice -- as I broke and got splashed before 2nd layer. It was frozen, we got rain & that froze another layer. Got thru it. Loaded hot tub with ice....set up hay, etc, etc....took 2 hrs to do a 30 min chore this morning. Same tonight. It's really slow walking on ice. 😖

Salted porch steps at front & back, some melted loose by evening, so I got that scraped off. Resalted so that thin layer of water isn't a glaze of ice in morning....cause it wasn't gonna dry!!

Tonight weather says -- nothing above 32 all week AND possible nor'easter coming this weekend. :he:he

I am soooo over this. Our norm is 48 this time of yr.

Only good -- so far, still power!

Good afternoon all.
Just got back in from feeding and treating calves. Started giving the calves an herbal blend that we use on the cow for mastitis and oh my gosh. Scour miracle in a bottle! Time to order more. All 3 calves are back in with "mom". Will be watching close for overeating. This herbal blend seems to be stopping the scours from overeating however so this is a good test. We've been doing timed feedings until now. I'm really hoping they will settle down and self regulate now. Next 24 hours i'll be nervous. If they all do well they will go out to pasture as a happy little family. This will be a huge relief for us. Will mean I can focus on the heifer and her calves as well as start getting back to moving.
DH drove his rig to work last night that he wants to take on his trip to our new home. Found another thing that needs fixing on it and decided since he's in there he'd better replace more parts while he's there. So more parts on order. He notified his supervisor a vacations is coming last night. Yay! Getting there. Working on ordering cameras and supplies he'll need while he's there to fix things. Waiting to hear from the previous owners on how the place is doing after the storm. They are going to turn off the water heater and leave the well off for us. We think that's a good idea until we can get there. Not knowing what storm will come before we are back. Oh and turn off the ice machine in the fridge. Hopefully that isn't burned up now. Anyone think of anything else to keep off while we aren't there?
I'd better get this order in and get to work. Temps are up a bit here today/tonight so I need to get the freeze drier cleaned and ready to start loads again. All the trays are currently filled and waiting in the freezers. Need to get cracking on that so I can make space for colostrum and milk to put up.
Y'all have a fantastic afternoon! :hugs

Temps rose overnight to 29 !!!!! then dropped back down to 22 now... needing one of the chinooks right about now... not going to see above 30 temps all week by the looks of it...
Will the freezing temps help kill the barber pole worms, other parasites?
