Good afternoon all! :frow
Got on the road early. Picked up an etsy purchase a friend wanted that happened to be more local to me. She's happy. Will send it in her next box I send. Did an amazon return and picked up hay to get us by for a bit. Home in time to sit down for a few then get ready to go to town to have DH sign the trust taxes and go to the bank to deposit the final refund check for the trust. Still waiting to hear back from the attorney on what the next steps are after signing the taxes. I'm going to have DH sign the checks that will go to the beneficiaries before he leaves on his trip so if they can get sent out I can drop them off while he's gone and get that going a bit faster than waiting for him to get home then send them. We both want this done and over with so we can move on with our own life. Hopefully the rest of this goes smoothly but I fully expect the problems in this family to complain about the amount they get since it's more than they thought they would be getting. They didn't know more refunds were coming since the initial checks went out. They were cut out of the loop except what the attorney tells them now. They mad this bed they can lay in it. It sounds like they will get a second accounting with the final check which means babysitting the accountant over and over again so it's at least presentable. Last accounting he couldn't even spell "community" right 4 times. Had to keep sending it back for fixing and he still didn't get it right. In a world of spell check HOW?!?!?! :he:he:he Have I mentioned how much I will be happy to be done with all this mess? Maybe by the end of the month. I'm pushing it that far out so maybe I can be pleasantly surprised when it's done earlier. 😂 Don't worry. I'm not holding my breath.
Made supplement capsules before I left so that's done. Didn't have enough made for DH's trip. Slowly checking things off the list. Made a couple batches of peanut brittle but have a few more to take. Will work on them this evening before milking.
Supposed to storm here all next week so I'm hoping to work on inputting our own tax stuff for the ranch. Would really like to do some packing too for another load home. Not sure how much I'll get done. Being back to milking I may not be able to take a load as soon as I was hoping. Always something. :idunno
DH will be up soon to get ready to go to town. He's not sleeping well. It's been one obnoxious road noise after another. Started with someone hotrodding an old pickup without exhaust or hood past the house racing. It's been down hill from there. Can not wait to be moved and not have this problem anymore.
Time for another cup of coffee. Y'all have a blessed afternoon and evening! :hugs

Taxes done. Holy moly this "accountant" is.... Well.....:he:he. My math said that there wasn't an exact division for the money left from the trust and the amount it was to be divided. Accountant kept telling me I was wrong. Wrote out the checks and did the math as I entered them in the check book and guess what????? Not an exact split as I said. So we are short a few cents on our check. Exactly what have we paid this "accountant" for? $1,000 for a very unprofessional accounting that even standard words aren't spelled properly. I've caught him being wrong several times on the math end of the accounting. On top of it he had the trusts town wrong in a spot on the taxes and another spot he technically had the correct town but spelled it wrong. :he :he :he :he We are finally done with him and almost completely done with the trust. The final checks are written and would have been dropped off at the attorney but they were gone for the day already when we finished at the accountants. So i'll have to drive back to town and drop them off tomorrow. Supposedly once the checks are all cashed and the bank balance is at zero we can close the trust account. No bills have come in for months now but technically someone can bill the trust for another just shy of 6 months. It's confusing to me that they would close the trust and finish paying out when there is a possibility of a bill coming due for another almost 6 months. Hope paying out the rest isn't a mistake because we'll never get the beneficiaries to pay back any bill amount that came due so we'd have to pay it out of our pocket. I'll be so glad when this is all behind us. Accountant said the taxes are filed as of today although he said some forms are still not out for state but they can still be submitted. Not sure how that works. He did show that this person is deceased so now the governments are aware. Sure hope he didn't mess anything up. DH had a look on his face that almost made me bust out laughing on the spot. I guess when you see the nonsense in person it's a bit more shocking.
I'm mentally exhausted. Time to get to chores. Y'all have a good evening. :hugs

@RR Homestead it’s a lot to navigate, trusts etc. I went through trusts, wills and deathbed wills. It takes patience and diligence and a willingness to call things out. Every step you take gets you closer to resolution. One day you can look back and say “Whew! Done with that”.

And things that make you go HMMMM --- DH has been doing a lot of the grocery shopping since he's now retired. So I ask - when did they change the default size of sugar from 5lbs to 4lbs???!!! He says it's always been that way - I say NOOOooooo dear. So that change has to be recent right?
On the sugar... it's been at least a year or more... maybe since covid???? They still sell 10 lbs. and 25 lbs... but the 5 lb bag is 4 lbs.... Like ice cream that most companies make is no long a 1/2 gallon... and recently a QT jar of mayonaise that was 32 oz is not a "qt looking jar" that is 30 oz....

Coffee is ready, with cream and buckwheat honey. I laid awake until after midnight, then woke up at 4. I raised the head and foot of the bed a little and ran the massage for 20 minutes. I had boudain for breakfast, tramadol for desert. Neighbor Charles and my son are gonna butcher a ram lamb this morning, for Charles and family. I'll be glad to get him gone. I don't know what Charles experience is, but my son is a good east Texas redneck man, he can handle it.
