One of my gradeschool teachers used to drink vanilla and also hazelnut coffee of some sort. Hol-leee cow, that smell was amazing and is going to stick with me forever.

Howdy all
DH arrived safely home. He made it in 2 days basically. Stopped 1/2 way at a hotel for a few hours. Slept a bit then laid there awake with his mind running 90 mph so he decided to get back on the road. He's already investigating things there. When he stops moving he's going to crash out I bet. The water heater is original from the early 90's. No wonder it doesn't work well. He thinks we can replace it with a standard water heater instead of a manufactured home specific water heater. That would be nice. Probably cheaper too. Not likely something he will tackle this trip but now he knows what he's getting into now and what he will need to do. Also he will measure the hole it needs to fit into to get in it's spot.
Got the starlink hooked up and is working on where the best location for it to be "permanently" mounted is. It will stay there until we are there. Then we'll move the actual permanent home starlink there. For now the mini is going to be the internet there so we can run some camera's to keep a better eye on things.
He found a dead rodent already in the basement. Ugh. He thinks he smells one in the house too but isn't sure where yet. I was afraid of that. Especially with no one in the house right now. The previous owners have poison out. Probably why there's dead rodents.
Sure do miss the feller. Going to be a long week. So weird him not being here. Now that I'm looking at him on the camera's at home as he's setting them up it's making me want to move and be settled in even more.
Rain has been pushed off and pushed off. Last update I saw was 4 pm it was going to start raining. Did night chores at 5 since it wasn't raining yet. It's 8:35 and now it's just starting to rain a bit. Need to go out and start another load in the freeze drier and get the stock put on trays in the freezer. I have the 22 qt roaster going with goat bones for stock. I processed the last goats last night. About did me in but I got it done and all the meat, organs and ribs in the freezer. What room I've made in the freezer is gone again. The only remaining animals to be processed is what chickens we have left. I'll probably do the older hens and the rooster sooner than later since the young hens are laying now. Only need a couple hens to keep us in eggs until we go and at that point we have freeze dried eggs to keep us going until we have new hens laying at home. Sure feels weird around here with so many less animals all over the house. Kind of making it easier to leave. Feels less and less like home as the days go on. At least now I can pull out all the goat boxes and get them listed for sale. Maybe even take down most of the remaining pen panels and bring them with us. At the cost of new panels etc. now I'm more pushed to take good things with us now.
I've gotten a few things done in the house. Trying to tackle one room a day in the house. Knock down cobwebs and get things tidied up. Pack what I can in the house. I can make a mess while DH is gone and not have to worry about him crashing. My thought was get all I can get done outside (goat processing etc) done before the week of storms then I can focus on in the house during the storms. Also need to put good effort into getting taxes inputted into the system this week if possible. I'd like to have it done far earlier than our appointment since I'm so far behind on them anyways. I hesitated to even push to tackle them on time and not put in for an extension but I don't want them hanging over my head the rest of the year while moving and trying to unpack. Using the storms as a good excuse to force myself to really work on them.
Got all the holstein graft calves dehorned yesterday. Should have done it before now but didn't have the time and they've consistently been sick. At least it seems I've mastered the nerve block now. Benefit's of polled cattle. Never having to dehorn. We used to pay a vet to do the dehorning but I refuse to do that now. The vets around here can't dehorn worth a darn. Every one has had horns continue to grow or scurs. Now that I'm doing them myself they are not getting horns or scurs. Hopefully that continues. Been a while since I've done one.
I need to get the cats fed so I guess I'll get off here for a bit. DH is currently outside temporarily setting up the cameras. I didn't think I'd care much but I really am enjoying seeing our house. Even at night. Oy. He just went back into the basement and the water tank is leaking pretty bad. Doesn't have a pan under it either. Working on a shopping list for tomorrow. He'll have to put that tank swap at the top of the list apparently. Glad he's there figuring it all out.

Coffee is ready. I've got the heating pad on the small of my back. I took 2 tramadol yesterday morning so I could go teach my class of 3 little kids and stay for the sermon. Took a muscle relaxer last night at bedtime. I'm really tired of this crap.

@RR Homestead I live in a 1998 doublewide manufactured home. I don't care what fancy moniker they hang on it, it's still a mobile home. The previous owners built on a utility room and installed a 50 gallon propane water heater. They also moved the washer dryer connections to it, leaving a space where the washer dryer used to be. I built shelves as deep as the washer dryer and put my canning stuff in it. They also did not cut the vinyl siding at the point of where the new utility room meets the outside of the home. They laid a 2x4 over it, leaving gaps. First thing I noticed when I got the keys was this blast of hot air. The outside AC unit sits right outside and was blowing hot air, the utility room was sucking it right in. Kinda late to correct that. I used nearly 30 tubes of caulk to plug all the holes, inside and out. The house was well cared for, I don't need a fancy half million dollar house to impress anybody, I'm perfectly happy. Plus the county depreciates it so taxes are ridiculously cheap. I textured the walls and painted the inside because I despise mobile home walls with those cutesy print on plastic walls. Your manufactured home has a basement? Mine sits on blocks, tied to concrete runners. The water table is too high for a basement. Back to the water heater, your husband will figure it out and put in a new one that meets your needs. Mobile home stuff is stupid, gotta buy special stuff just for a mobile home. But I don't care. I'm just a Redneck Double Wide Diva.

$500 flat tax here for mobile homes, so might as well splurge for being King of the Trailer Park with the best one.

We rented singlewides in mobile home parks when we moved south, in SC and then here in NC. We eventually bought the singlewide we were renting. If the park owner didn't decide to sell the land to a developer and force all the residents to move we'd probably be there still.

They're perfectly adequate as shelter, just cheaply made, as are the fixtures.

Depends on where you live and what year it was built. Mobile homes are a waste of material just by the way they are built in themselves of not being square designed. Most are 12x ... 14x .... 16x.... whatever dimensions to fit going down the road. So if you have a 16 x 80 (1280 square foot) mobile home you could of built a 48 x 48 (2304 square foot) house with same materials.

Last of my 3dy weekend. Chores shortly and double check some fence changes from yesterday. It's a damp cold out there this morning, after rains last night. Low 40s but a good wind going on. That makes it go thru ya. Warm inside -- inviting I've got coffee to finish before I suit up and get working out there.

@RR Homestead glad hubs got there ok and remember he's doing some things that need doing! It won't be too long before y'all are there. Transporting a farm takes a LOT of effort & time. . You'll question the decision until you get time to spend there. Then you'll hate the "clean up" trips to old farm. A real disruption to life style for a period of time. Hopefully, summer will see an end to it.
