ATTENTION TO EVERYONE that has livestock... ESPECIALLY those closer to the border with Mexico..
You all know I am not a computer person... so cannot figure out to link things... BUT

Go on RFD TV and see the latest on the NWSW situation... Sid Miller, prominent in the livestock industry, Texas Ag commissioner, and Many generational rancher/farmer... recently did an update on the Screw worm situation... and it is NOT GOOD... There are 14 cases within a 200 mile border of Texas now.. and they are not from cattle that have moved from southern Mexico to the northern Mexican states... but local screw worm populations...

This screw worm affects not just cattle, but all species of livestock... the wildlife populations, exotics and deer hunting etc is very popular in Texas... AND the PET POPULATION.... as well as people having been bit and I have heard but not confirmed that one person died from it... AND the FERAL HOG POPULATION... can carry the eggs that will hatch and could be well into TEXAS because you all know how well controlled the feral hog population is:mad::mad::th:th:th

This is why the border to Mexico has been closed to cattle shipments for nearly a year and will remain closed indefinitely I hope. And we need Mexican cattle for the southern feedlots, so it is not any selfish, I want cattle to stay high reasons... feedlots are closing down, people are losing jobs... lives and towns are being hurt and destroyed through lack of jobs etc...

There was the announcement that the new sterile fly breeding facility has been finished and has opened in Texas... on one of the military bases I think... but it is going to take months at maximum capacity to make a dent in the population in Mexico. The only saving grace is the female only breeds once, and produces thousands of eggs... and bred to the sterile males, the eggs won't hatch.
BUT... it took nearly 50 YEARS to eradicate this DA@#&*D fly from Texas the last time...

And NO, I do not believe this is some "conspiracy" because it is devastating the Mexican rancher/farmer also and hurting their economy terribly too. Cartels make alot of money in the ranching businesses...

So maybe those of you in the northern tier states won't have to deal with the actual physical fly... but you are going to continue to feel the "pain" of prices and reduced availability of meat products...

Not sure how to react to this - scared - yeah, mad - yeah, GD screw worm - yeah. Truly pisses me off it's gotten this far. We hear nothing about it here - and we're 53 stinkin' miles from the border. Granted it's the Baja border - but it's still Mex. It's not going to make the news here until someone's lil toy multi-poo dies from it.

Ran out of time this morning so I skipped breakfast and BYH.
:ep

Our revival services at church started this morning, with a good old fashioned preacher, not a slick evangelist type. I really enjoyed it. I wish I could go to the evening services this week, but I don't drive at night and don't want to ask anyone for a ride, as it's 40 miles RT = 80 miles. Oh well.

Thunderstorms are forecast for this evening. Caleb is already anxious, pacing, so he must be sensing the air pressure change. We'll just have to deal with it, like with fireworks.

I'm late to the gas discussion. I'm here in Calif near Indio/Palm Springs. We got regular gas yesterday at Costco. $5.09 a gallon!!! The cheap places were $5.03.
What's crazy is I would think that's a good price. 🤦‍♀️Our main gas rig only takes premium. That makes the prices even worse. Either diesel or premium for us. Ouch

Geez. I haven't even heard an update in the last week or two. It's amazing how quiet this is being kept.

Good afternoon everyone! :frow
Quiet "morning" so far. That's been nice. One cup of coffee down. Definitely headed to the kitchen to get another in a few minutes. Made really good progress this weekend. Trailer is pretty much as packed as it's going to get. I'm still packing more boxes and stuffing them wherever I can in there. Still not sure when I'm leaving yet. Neither beef cow/heifer has calved yet. Jersey is acting like she want's to calve weeks early. I don't quite believe her but I'm watching. DH doesn't want me to leave after the last cows problems. We'll see how the beef heifer does and go from there. I'm being impatient but he's right. He can't work full time and me be thousands of miles away if there's a problem. I just REALLY want to get this done and be done moving. Get this place listed while everything is green and blooming. Got a fair bit more packed and out of the house. We're really starting to struggle with "hey do you know where such and such is?" " Yes. It's in MO". 😩 Things are getting challenging. We're mostly down to bare minimum kitchen essentials (for now) and animal care items.
I've emailed a trucker who I follow on youtube asking about help finding a reliable driver to transport our tractors and handling equipment. He was kind enough to give me his email when I commented on trying to figure that out. Hoping to hear back from him soon. Probably need to start listing things up for sale on CL soon. Get more stuff gone. Especially if I'm going to be here through the rest of calving.
I made a hard boiled egg/pasta salad this weekend. Then MIL sent over deviled eggs. Also have extra hard boiled eggs not in the pasta. DH asked what I wanted for supper last night. Eggs, eggs or eggs?
Wild weather at home. Never seen lightening like we had at the house. Can't imagine what it's going to be like in person. Another camera has "died" We're down to 4 of 8 working now. :he:he:he Can still see the house and all around it so the security factor is still ok. Just can't see any of the fields etc like we were enjoying. Hopefully I'll get there soon and get it fixed or replaced. More weather coming this week. Sure is different this storm season watching the live streams and worrying about our own house vs just our friends.
Guess I'd better get a second cup of coffee and get to sorting the stack of papers that need to be filed. Making progress with packing things that don't need to stay. Really not sure when to take documents in the move. Learning as we go.
Y'all have a great evening!! :hugs

P.S. Time change stinks!

Just got home. Went an hour away and picked up two cross bred heifer calves. Got a decent deal on them and calves are really hard to come by right now. I'd like to have a calf to graft onto the last jersey heifer as soon as she calves. The seller had two jersey cross calves available and wanted to sell them both. She told me they were beef cross but I'm skeptical at the moment on that. For one they aren't polled and most dairies use angus to cross if they use beef. They should be polled if angus cross. They look a lot like the jersey/holstein calf our last jersey heifer delivered. Only thing is one of the calves does have more of a beef calf head. I will be keeping my hands off of these calves so they aren't dairy prospects and will be shipped at weaning. Especially if they are dairy cross not beef on dairy cross. Would have preferred bulls but on short notice and without any other options currently I'll take what I can get. My hope is that I can stick them both on the heifer when she calves so they will all keep up immediately so I can get back to moving. I do need to train her to milk since that will be her use once we're moved but for now my goal is mostly not having to milk daily. Worst case I can ship one of the heifers if we don't need them both. I still need to ship the cow that lost her calf. I can do that at the same time. For now they are snuggled in some deep straw in the trailer for the night. I'll bring one of the cows in to feed the two calves later in the morning. They've been on a bottle so I'd like them nice and hungry to get them on a cow. I'll do shifts with our main cow and her calves so she can feed these two until the heifer calves. Her calves are old enough now they can have a little less for a few days or so.
I'm off to have supper.
Y'all have a great day! :hugs

Sitting here with 2 hours to get the excavator tracked down the ridge and ready to unload 60k lbs worth of pipe in a blizzard. Which is going to track right by some special neighbors who are going to start calling authorities cause I tracked it 400 ft on the main road. Not that it is illegal or anything or going to hurt anything, just that they can, might help break up the new rock at most as the machine only weighs 30k lbs. Yet 80k lbs cattle trucks and farm tractors are fine, it's just cause it's me driving it.
