Coffee anyone ?

Mostly relaxing today, doesn't happen very often. Checked the activity around the hives and gave the flock a treat. There are other things I can work on, but I'm not in the mood. We're heading over to the wetside when hubs finishes playing golf. He's playing, so I'm allowed to relax...lol He wants to take me to a pond store to see if we can find some plants for my bee pond. We'll also hit a few nurseries while we're over there. We plan on staying tonight and then come home after we've finished our shopping. Should be fun, except for the traffic and all of the people.
Wish you were closer, I have lots of pond plants here that I could give to you...pickerel rush, arrowhead, iris, parrot feather, water lilies.

So - this morning DH calls - asks "Did you order hay?" --- No dear, I didn't order any hay. .. "Well - they're delivering at the barn now." --- EEEP !! I was only looking at what I had and thinking about we're going to need hay in a week or two.
Got to the barn and they'd already unloaded and stacked maybe 20 or so bales. EEEEEEK. Calls go back and forth to the hay folks from the guys and DH as I'm standing there thinking --
- I was only thinking about when to order
- Damn that's really nice looking hay
- Maybe we should take this load - so what if it's a couple weeks earlier than I was thinking

More phone calls, and 75 bales later I think we'll be set for the summer! Sometimes things happen for a reason. Not sure the exact reason on this, but I'm going with the flow.
It's a good thing it was a good thing...lol

@RR Homestead ... I am sorry for the experiences on your cattle at that sale barn... previously and the current situation with the heifers.
One word of advice... We NEVER EVER sell anything at the stockyards anymore unless we are there... NEVER.... you go and watch and make sure they bring a fair price. Have had a few get "stolen" in the ring in the past.... one sale barn here closest will do that for single's that go through... we do sell some groups there, but hardly ever take any that will get singled out.... unless they are SUPERIOR animals... and we still sit through the sale....

You were right in catching what they were doing and doing a "no sale"...

Can't you just find a bull to lease and get them all bred black to an angus??? Quickly ????
I don't know the market or available farms there that might have some thing black to use....Or buy a young bull, use him and then you could resell him after you are here and they are bred... There is always a market for a good young breeding bull.... OR ELSE... get them moved, breed them to calve in early fall (bull goes in Oct/Nov) ... they will have several months for the calf to get some growth before the winter weather sets in... and you will have good sized feeder calves to sell in early spring.
I always go when I sell. I've spent decades at this barn. It's the most well known high end barn in CA. Out of state haul into this barn. Having said that the manager who I've known for decades and worked for passed away a year ago (I didn't know until recently) and apparently the new manager is who I met yesterday. We've always had issues with our cattle going through in a timely manner but this was above and beyond. Lesson learned for sure.
I will say that I've heard horrible things about our local barn near our new farm. I've been looking into others because of this. I will check out the local barn but likely will drive an hour away to sell if needed. I'm told that it's common to sell privately so we'll look into that when the time comes.
I've looked into bulls. Leasing or buying. Right now there's just not a lot around here. Wrong time of year unless I want to chance an unknown bull off of craigslist. Part of why we've been working on breeding everyone here before shipping. Get it done while everything is set up and the timing is right for breeding season there. It's all a mess we're just going to have to try and make the best of. I'll continue looking for a bull for there while we continue on with this move. Things will hopefully work out one way or another.
WOW. Just WOW. GRRRR on people who do things like that -- rules for thee and not me types. What a jerk.
As I was reading I was thinking it was meant to be that you get them back. And that was before I read about the jerk manager. HAPPY that you were watching and on top of the situation.
I was pretty shocked. While I've had issues with them not putting our cattle through in a timely manner this was a bit over the top. I'm just so thankful that I started watching the stream in time to see what was going on. Starting putting the pieces together that the market was dropping and decided to be sure ours had sold already. We both are feeling like this was meant to be and a way to solidify they are going. No more questions about it. DH says the girls are now on jenny craig (a diet) for their upcoming trip. :lol:We'd like them to not be quite as conditioned as they transition to humidity. At the rate we're going it will be fall before they go anyways. 🤦‍♀️

That's fantastic! I bet soon you'll know why this happened and count it a blessing and then some. That's usually how it goes for us when things like that happens.
