I scored 8/10! Missed the goose one and guessed wrong on the winter layer question.

Funny enough, I’ve always thought Brahmas were more ornamental and hardy rather than prolific winter layers. My own best cold-season layers have been Plymouth Rocks and Rhode Island Reds — steady eggs even when the days got short.

Loved the quiz! It’s a fun reminder of how diverse poultry breeds really are. Out of curiosity, does anyone here keep Polish? I’ve only seen them at shows and wondered if the crest feathers cause any vision or predator issues in backyard setups.

I have Polish. I do think their crest affects them a little. They are easier for me to sneak up on sometimes. But I know they can still see. Back when I used to free range my birds I only had a few Polish. Because of hawks I had to stop free ranging. But it wasn’t the Polish that were getting taken, so I’ve never felt that the crests were a problem.

Oh, I have to modify that! I just remembered my first Polish hen got grabbed by a hawk once but got away from it and hid in the tall weeds. I ran out and chased the hawk away and picked up the hen and put her in the coop with all the smarter birds that had run for cover. So maybe her crest did have something to do with it.
