Silas and his harem. The gamebird is Julia, don't think she's laying yet. She is mingling more with the older hens.

Everyone is here except the shy OEGB, Phoebe. I think it is Dinah who started laying, found another pullet egg today.

The older hens behind him are Rahab (darker) and Hannah. Near left is my chatty Joanna, who suddenly appears to be molting, and behind her is Priscilla. Zack's new feathers are coming in very pretty.

⬆️ You can see the juvies around the feeder. They are mingling some with the older birds, and Zack tolerates them. They are as large as the adults, at about four months old.

The beautiful colors of your birds are like a bouquet of flowers!
Thank you!

I know it's mainly because I bring good food, but I get a kick out of them storming the door as I approach the coops.

Today they got some leftover chicken, gourds, and freshly picked Chinese cabbage.

Monday night forecast is for our first frost.

Time to move the house plants inside, and set up plastic to cover some of the gardens, mainly the cabbage and carrots.

After mowing up the leaves I mulched the raised beds, and the irises.

The collards don't care. They laugh at snow and ice.

I'll also need to set up the winter water bowl. I have a tire that my rubber pan fits. The tire keeps the water from being tipped over, and after I stuff the tire with straw, it also insulates the pan some.

When the temps get below freezing I just pop out the layer of ice.

I need to set up another water bowl for the second coop, and I do have a slightly smaller rubber pan, but don't have another tire.

When I had laying hens and Texas got hit with the snow and ice storm of the century, It got to -6 degrees. I had extra gallon water thingys , so i brought the solid frozen block of ice in and put it in the bathtub to thaw in the mornings and replaced it with one filled with warm water. In the afternoons, i did it it again.

If you need another tire, take your rubber tub and go to any tire store, explain what you want it for and they will probably give you one or charge very little for it. Don't go to the chain stores, they probably have "rules".
