Last night at 11pm I woke up to this. My neighbor was burning these huge piles of trees that he was clearing off his land. Not super close to my house, but close enough that when the glow was coming in my bedroom window, my brain was saying danger. Uggggg I could not sleep for two hours. I had to get up early for work today.

Those piles of trees were taller than my house. I know flames were over 25 ft in the air at one point.
Seems like something he should have done during the day time in case things went pear shaped. Why wait until people are asleep in their beds to start a potential wild fire? What a jerk.

Now I’m reminded of the time we burned our huge brush pile that had built up for a long time. This was on a Saturday during the day, and we make our brush piles a good distance from the trees and the scrubby fields. Also, there is a dense tree line along the east side of our property, then a common area with a retention pond, and then a neighborhood with houses that back up to all of that.

So we lit our fire, and it built up to a good roar, possibly 25 foot flames. The guy on the other side of all the trees and pond and common area could hear it, but not really see it too well through the trees. I think he was really scared. He kept shouting “are you ok?!” Somehow my husband was able to communicate to him that we were just burning our brush pile and everything was ok. (They really couldn’t hear each other very well.)

I just can’t fathom doing that at night. SMH.
