The first big pumpkin I grew this year is going to be pie and bread. Started processing it, it weighed 14 pounds! And it smells so good! The guts came out really easily. I didn't save seeds, might on the next one.

Before grocery stores that are loaded with everything any time of the year. people relied on vegetables that could withstand protected winter storage. Pumpkins were an important food, not the decorations they are used for now. Your pumpkin is a triumph in the modern world, all that orangey goodness that will result in pies and bread. Growing it, processing it and cooking it into delicious food for your family! You are awesome! :weee :weee :weee

I think my oven is having issues. Set it for 400, but thermometer said it was around 450... can't wait to get kitchen upgraded. Baked the pumpkin for about an hour till it was fork tender all over, then let it cool and scooped the insides into the big Tupperware. This is going to make a lot of pumpkin bread.

We went to a day before Thanksgiving parade with the kids, my mom, and brother's girlfriend. We had fun but kid 1 was bummed because he wasn't as fast as the other kids and we apparently sat too close to the end of the parade so there wasn't as much candy being thrown. Kid 1 still got a few pieces but seeing as we are going to have at least 5 pies tomorrow for a gathering of 12, I think we are ok on sweets.

Got back from the parade and made 2 batches of chocolate chip pumpkin mini loaves, and started the bread rolls. They had to be kneaded 10 minutes, my arms are tired. They are supposed to rise 2 times before I bake them. I'm hoping they will turn out ok. I've made this recipe twice in thr past, once was awesome and super delicious, the second was meh. I am using the fancy Red Mill bread flour instead of the all purpose, so I think that will help.

Later today I'm going to make cranberry sauce, mini pumpkin pies, and mini pecan pies. Also may make zucchini bread and banana bread if I still have energy. I should have made the cranberry sauce earlier this week so it could set up, hopefully it won't be too watery. I might try adding pectin if it seems like its too watery.

My feet hurt, I've been standing for hours in the kitchen. We are changing to canned cranberry. Bread rolls are in the oven with the mini pumpkin pies. I did a stupid and burned my fingers. I put the first pan of the mini pumpkin pies in the oven and then filled the shells for the second pan. I opened the oven back up and grabbed the first pan with both hands (thankfully only finger tips) to move it over and surprise surprise the pan was hot. Currently holding a cold pack to make my fingers feel better.

I'll need to make another set of mini pie shells and do the pecan pies later tonight.
