Just wondering, I bought a goat feed with AC in it. It says on the bag "Some, but not all medications should be stopped being fed to goat for a certain time frame before slaughter". (something like that) So what does that mean??!! Dose that mean something in the feed SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be used w/i that time frame?

Should I list the ingredients for you so you can let me know if I need to stop this food a month before slaughter?

:(

I feel like such a novice.

They get about 1/2 cup of this a day per goat, mixed w/ alfalfa pellets.

SHOWMAKER:
Corn, barley, soybean meal, cottonseed whole, cane molasses, wheat millrun, rice bran, almond hulls - whole, alfalfa meal dehydrated, beet pulp, soybeans - heat processed, aspirated grain fractions, calcium carbonate, salt, ammonium chloride, distillers dried grains, mono-dical phosphate, vegetable & animal fat, yeast dried, preservatives, potassium chloride, zinc, methionine, vitamin E supplement, vit A acetate in Gelatin, vit D3 Supp., manganous sulfate 32%, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, sodium selenite, mineral oil, cobalt carbonate.

I would switch to a non medicated feed at least 20 days before slaughter. I think the primary thing you want out of their systems is the Decoxx/Rumesin. Also, no dewormer in that time.

Maybe someone who raises meat goats can chime in?

Is the decoxx/rumesin in the ingredients I listed? :)
Sorry, I don't see it, but don't know if it's called something else?

Thanks!

Is it a product made by associated feed ?

ANY medicated goat feed will contain a coccistat - either Decoxx, Rumesin or Monesin...the 'medication' does not refer to the AC.

The only non medicated one I see with AF Inc is the AP Goat...

PS the coccistat usually isn't listed in the ingredients list - it will be somewhere on the tag...and there will be a warning to not let horses consume the feed.

I would call the feed manufacturer(a phone # should be listed on the tag) and ask what the withdraw period is.
