Animals add so much life to a homestead. They bring food, fiber, and sometimes just a lot of entertainment. Whether it’s the clucking of hens, the playful hopping of rabbits, or the gentle buzz of bees, each creature has its place. The hard part is choosing which one to add first!

Which animal feels like the perfect addition to your homestead? Would you go practical with chickens or adventurous with bees? Or maybe your dream animal is a little different. Tell us who you’d welcome to your barnyard first!

You can get a standard donkey at auctions, they generally go for meat prices.

Being practical, I'd add laying hens. Being impractical, I'd get a couple or three horses. So I checked horses.

I'm actually pretty happy with what I've got here. I wouldn't add any animals to what I already have (noting that sheep would be "other") in the list. Perhaps a barn cat?
