It was correct. Our area hasn't been affected with layoffs due to govt shutdown. But the crap show on the news about Portland is so overstated...

Our food bank in the small bedroom community of Vancouver is steady. We were overwhelmed by produce from back yard gardeners for two months. Totally swamped so much that we were putting cases of tomatoes, zuc, peppers and more tomatoes on the outside looooong bench for people to pick thru. Now we're getting pears - lots of pears.

There is a once a month drive thru here and they do as yours there Bay. Foods are bagged, put into vehicles as they come thru an orderly & controlled line. Mostly 2 fams are supplied per car. 250-300 families are normally serviced per day.

Also, there's an actual "store" set up where people enter by appointment, walk thru and get product from shelves & coolers. There are limits posted as to how many of each item they may take. This is open 5 days a week, 8 hrs ea.

All food bank supported. I've helped on occasion at each in the past. Not signed up for any shifts right now. But thinking I may get back to it as the increases for need are real and free help is appreciated.

Additionally, there is a 10 acre land plot, farmed & supported by grants, volunteers, etc., where some produce is grown, harvested and used in the store front. Our area is pretty active.

We load up carts with food, and then wheel them out to their car. There is a set amount of each category, including commodity. They get a huge bag of produce, which is bought from a local restaurant produce supplier every week. They also get a small box of frozen items, including meat. We are open 2 x a day, and they are only allowed to come once per month. All carts are weighed and the clients name imputed into their record on the computer.

Sorry Peteyfoozer!
