Odd thoughts with coffee. Tolkien was still alive when I first read LOTR.

More morning musings. I was chatting with the kid taking my groceries to the car and he mentioned that the town was nice but there wasn’t much to do. When I was his age (uh oh) I lived in a town of umpteen thousand. There was one movie theater, an old Fox theater, a converted opera house with some beautiful woodwork and ceiling moldings. It was not reliably open and generally showed children’s movies and the occasional western, nothing newer than five years old. There were two and a half tv stations including the local station that carried NBC. The half station was available depending on the weather and was an affiliate of that mysterious ABC. Both the theater and the tv station were censored by a local group of people who feared for the morals of the youth. Whenever the nationals aired something risqué or unacceptable it was replaced by Death Valley Days with a disclaimer that the program was deemed inappropriate. Somehow Johnny Carson made the cut, Dick Cavett didn’t nor did Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin in the afternoon. They were replaced by children’s programs featuring a local dressed up as some character, a cowboy, forest ranger or an astronaut who played vintage cartoons or staged puppet shows. It was hilarious if it was someone you knew. The small college town I lived in briefly stopped tv and radio broadcasts at 10pm sharp no exceptions. Occasionally somebody would sneak some after midnight broadcasts- Monty Python was a favorite. Later Mary Hartman which went over a lot of heads. Satellite, cable and internet erased all of that. I kind of miss the folksy, by the seat of your pants local tv and radio.

You're not alone in that listening belief. In talking to one of my dogs who had really goofed up one day - I said "If you do that one more time I'm going to kill myself" --- my phone immediately buzzed me and asked if I wanted a suicide prevention line. Yeah. That.

This happened to me... it's kind of scary and should make us all angry. I was playing golf with my husband and all I said was, "I hate this game, it's so depressing"! Lol I didn't get a call, but Google started talking and gave me a number I could call for help.

A large branch flattened a section of fence so Moses was just walking out. Happily the sheep didn’t follow him. This morning’s walkabout was brief and he discovered Our pond, a better place to swim then the neighbor’s. Maybe we should start the day with a swim, then breakfast then work. The pond is not fenced but heavily treed. Fencing could probably be tacked up and the area would benefit from being grazed. Fence building in August

That's living the good life right there!

Homemade pimento cheese:

Grate 1 pound sharp cheddar cheese
1 small jar diced pimentos
1 package cream cheese
Glop or 2 of miracle whip

Mix it all together with a spoon. Ta-Da!

Was just going to ask how to make it. Hubs will love it!

Was friend requested on FB by a childhood through college friend this week. I thought great we can catch up. Accepted the friend request. She replied that she was sorry she contacted me it was an accident. She was looking for an article and reached several people she hadn’t intended to. Gee. Thanks. Kinda crap considering she’s a psychologist.

You're better off without people like that in your life. Self centered and they think the world revolves around them.

He passed just a couple of years before I read it. I think I was 10, my brothers gave me the boxed set for my birthday. My children devoured the books just like I did.

Here are some of my favorite Tolkien fan fictions. They are wholesome and stick pretty close to the books. 1) No Man’s Child -Aragorn’s first wife.
2) In the House of Elrond. Aragorn’s early life in Rivendell.
3) Elladaniel- one of Elrond’s twin sons adopts an orphan human girl post LOTR.
My favorite- Don’t Panic- a modern day young woman (British) finds herself in middle earth and in her pajamas.
All these are female oriented and may not suit the gents so much.

I've not tried Tolkien fan fiction, and generally I'm not too impressed with tie-ins to classics. However, I did enjoy a companion to Pride and Prejudice, titled Longbourn. It was from the servants' perspective.
