Did he ever have a reason/plan for having the animals? Dogs, cats -- yeah just pets or rodent catches & alarm systems (bark)! But why others?

If they were already dedicated horse riders, a barn would have happened at buying. 🤷 He's haphazard.

Stay home, don't risk your life out there. He'll get over it.
Learned my lesson a couple of years back when my 5 ton truck went off a ridge. Nope, not buying chains to put on, not risking sliding off the deck of the trailer, not putting extra strain on parts cause oil/hydraulic oil has become molasses. Told him to get a RV cassette toilet and suck it up, we did it for years.

My excavator can bust right on through it easily. I have tricks for it, but some aren't worth the treat.

Animals are going, or at least the horses are. He had a moment of realization it's going only one direction. He thinks I am going to do the septic this winter cause he looks outside and sees no snow hardly since he is in lower elevation than me. We are about 200' higher, we got a lot of trees here and the road is shaded leading out of here as you can see in my last picture I posted with the snow on the ground. I had to use the excavator to move the pigs in the trailer cause it's an ice rink out here, not even 4WD in a dually could pull them up the hill.
Where are the horses going?

Talking about the blocks moving... those are the same blocks we used to make the silage pit... 3300 lbs each... and they are staggered when he put them up for more strength... one side and the back is backfilled and they are fine with the silage... the other side is NOT backfilled and he only went 3 high on that side, 4 high on the side and back that is against the dirt sides..... and being careful when filling it and driving on the silage to pack it down...
It takes alot of pressure to move those blocks. and your backfill against them had not had a chance to settle in and hold better and then added the weight of the snow and water and all on top pushing them out...
Sorry it happened, but as you said, you can learn from it... go from there...
Plus, you have been pushing to do your stuff with all the stupid stuff you have been doing for him and it was more rushed at home... and not using the steel that you wanted... I sure do not know all the finer "figuring" of weight and force and all... all that dirt on top and then the wet made it many times heavier...

Get through the winter... and then next year you can redesign the hoop type top, use the kind of pipe you know will handle the weight... and redo it so you can walk in it and use it for storage as a root cellar more comfortably.
Sorry for the expensive lesson... but you sure got it cleaned off and all fast. Good for you getting that done before the upcoming snow.
