Good afternoon everyone! :frow
Just sat down with a cup of coffee trying to wake up. Got a bit of sleep today. Long overdue and much needed but struggling to wake up. Really need more sleep. Waiting on the mail lady to deliver today. My new shepherd's whistle is supposed to be delivered today from the UK and it looks like it's needing a signature. Unfortunately tracking is a bit funky being from the UK. Seems odd to need a signature but don't want to miss the delivery. I have been trying to teach myself a shepherd's whistle since we lost our ranch dogs. Looking for something "easier" for commands when using the dogs to herd the cattle etc. I'd like to get the hang of it before our next pups. I figured driving thousands of miles back and forth to our new house I could get it figured out but I've failed with the one I have now so far and it tastes nasty. I ordered a different one that got really good reviews for people figuring it out and it comes with directions on whistles to start with. It's been decades that I've wanted to learn to use one so I've taken the lack of dogs opportunity and the countless hours of driving to try and finally learn it. New home. Fresh start. Hoping I'll be able to catch the delivery.
Made really good progress on things last night. Got the old stock trailer cleaned up. At least 1/2 of it loaded for a dump run. DH did most of that while I milked both cows and made up cat food. Today's plan is more loading of stuff for the dump. Pulling out more things we want to sell so I can get pictures for listing. Do a ton more mowing and weed eating. We are behind on that right now. Was starting to look like no one cared about the place around here. :hide Have had a dump pile growing in the driveway for a few weeks now while that trailer was repaired (wiring and lights issues) and we worked on other things. Grass growing up all around it and the sides of the driveway. Embarrassing. Feels good to get things looking a bit better and making progress again towards packing/moving. DH plans on starting to pack for his trip too. He's trying to figure all he needs to take to work on everything he's planning to tackle. Not sure what else we'll tackle tonight. Maybe I'll just wander the property trying to whistle.
Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend so far and those living in the chilly areas are getting some relief! :hugs

Why I don't have border collies! Well, one of the reasons.
I've lost count how many times I've said that about them! Maybe two decades or so ago I trialed one for about a week. Started puppy. I really thought one would be a good addition to our ranch and I needed the help moving our cattle due to health issues. Holy moly the energy. Nope. We just flat don't have enough constant work for one and with our schedule taking them for a run around the ranch daily wan't going to happen. Our cattle mostly come when called anyways it's more sorting/moving help I was looking for. Too much drive for our uses. The pup got a fantastic larger ranch home and we got two new heeler pups. 😂 I still would love to have a kelpie though. We'll probably never not have heelers though.

You're talkin' my language now!! As I was reading I was going to suggest and ACD - and you already have/know/etc! Great tough "little" dogs. Corgis are good as well. I know a bull contractor for PBR who had one (or Corgi mix) That dog was amazing. I've got shots of him working when they were rounding up and castrating/vaccinating/etc.
ROTFL Border Collie - the OCD king/queen of the dog world (generalization of course).
Shepherd's whistle -- you can clean the nooks and crannies with a tooth pic, and put it in the dishwasher or soak overnight. They do get scuzzy.
I learned on one of those red plastic ones. Same way you're planning -- driving. First sounds are .... pitiful - but yahoo moments. Of course that's paired with spit on the inside of the windshield
My shepherd's whistle is silver, geeze it must be around 30 yrs old now. I've got a nice lanyard for it and it hangs on the leash rack when I'm not using it.

We've had heelers for decades. Love them with all my heart. Can't wait to get our new puppies once we're moved. My dream "pet" has been a corgi since I showed them as a kid. Never got one. We discussed it when we suddenly lost our last healer recently. The health issues they have really had delayed getting one. They've become very popular pets and bred down so their herding isn't really great anymore for the most part. Of course there are good breeders out there for herding but they seem to be hard to come by.
Great tip on the sherpherd's whistle cleaning!   So that's what is all over the inside of my windshield.:lol::lol: The first one I bought was the ACME nickel silver whistle. Tastes nasty. I've barely made an actual sound with it in 6 months. The one I ordered is a Logan A1 silver anodized aluminum whistle with rope lanyard. Allegedly this kit comes with a link to the "Logan Whistle Command Sound Guide" Hoping i'll have some success this time.

Well, guys -- a feel like of 3 out there. NOT liking this. It.just.wont.leave!! 🥺 Actual 17 and winds. I was hoping it was just a bad dream. Wrong. It's real.

Hot coffee by the fire. It's propane but, there's real flames. Warm anyway. Somewhat relaxing to watch. 🫤 That is until I think about the ice I'll need to bust up pretty soon. Shortly after I suit up about 10# of extra coveralls, hats, gloves, boots -- you're tired before you even start! At least the ground snow & ice is gone. Still watch your step, there's a spot here & there, frozen mud. Easy to slip if you hit it. Messy if you're toting water.

I cooked a bunch yesterday. More of that today.
Have a great Sunday everyone. 😁

4 degrees overnight... wind chill is in the minus temps...
BUT the sun is coming up over the hill across the road and temps ought to get into the low 30's...winds dying down.... warmer for the next few days...40's and 50's ?????

UNLIKE @Mini Horses , we are still white everywhere it was not plowed... you saw it in the pics I posted on my thread yesterday..... and harder than a rock.... I drove the truck across a short span there at snyder's and it never made a dent in the crust/concrete like surface...
Newspaper here also called it "SNOW CRETE".... harder than trying to bust up concrete at this point. The next couple days ought to really get some thawing going... it will be muddy/water laying on the surface, because the ground is sooo frozen hard... it won't "soak in" very fast... but it won't melt super fast either... and the sun is sucking some of that moisture right out of the air because of the dry crispness...
