💗🐝Our Backyard Beekeeping Journey!🐝💗

Resource Hive # 1: Carniolan
I spotted the 3 capped queen cells on April 16th. The virgin queen might have already emerged or should within the next couple of days. I will check on June 6th to see if we have a new queen, that gives her at least 3 weeks. Hopefully we will have a newly mated and laying queen at that time.
I did see pollen coming in.

Just saw pollen for the first time, being brought into Hive #4: Buckfast. It's so small right now. I gave them quite a bit of capped brood when we installed the queen. I'm sure some of them have emerged by now. I hope to find some newly capped brood the next time we get into this hive. I will assess at that time if they have enough bees to support adding another frame. I add a frame with bees and any of the worker bees don't stay. They bring back their sisters to access the 1:1. Not sure what I can do about that, without setting up hives miles away.

We need to make an entrance reducer, not sure where ours went. I made the entrance really small to make it easier for them to defend.

I always have them handy. I judge what the temperament of the hive is, this time of year they're usually very calm. If they seem a little spicy, I will put them on. I hate wearing gloves, they're so bulky, I don't like the reduced dexterity. Most times I can work without them.

Catalpa blooms look like orchids. My Daddy used to plant catalpa trees for the catapillars that ate the leaves. Made great fishing worms!
That's what they remind me of too. They're so pretty.

I've not really noticed a lot of leaf damage. I'll have to look closer and see if we have any. A free supply of fishing worms would be great.
