My egg eaters end up in the pot.

EXACTLY.......If you can't break them from eating eggs, they become dinner. Too many chickens, too little compensation for their feed if they are eating the eggs that they are supposed to be "paying you back for their feed and care"....

Get a ceramic egg, they make them very realistic and even get the weight really close. The chicken doesn't like pecking the hard egg so less likely to continue eating the real eggs. Downside is they are so realistic that the egg gatherer sometimes collects them... Sometimes raccoons or snakes think they are real too, which can get interesting.

Chai tea this morning. Frost tonight and tomorrow so cover up peach tree. Hubbs was in Vegas all week at a convention. At the Bellagio no less. No wonder he doesn’t want to retire. I’m going to get some easter eggs and fill them with mustard as a surprise for my egg breaker(s). Previous owner was pre knee replacement and had good intentions but didn’t realize mice got into his jumbo feeder and spoiled the kibble. He didn’t gather eggs so chickens developed the habit. I don’t blame him a bit both my knees are mess now. The good knee is now the bad knee from over compensating. With Hubbs back I can get off my feet. Probably be doctor time if I can’t get better. On the bright side I now know what an illiotibial band is (all your jazz favorites by the Illiotibial Band featuring Art Ritis and the Meniscal Tear singers). Ugh. Getting old ain’t for sissies.

Where ya’ been? Missed you! I get it on the knees. My “good” knee used to hurt, causing me to lurch from side to side like a drunk. Was in terrible pain all the time. But hey! Hospital has spare parts! I highly recommend it! Plus lots of therapy! I told my therapist “make it hurt” and she did. But I can go for miles now, no pain, good knee is good again. I went to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He’s the director over joint replacement and does the robotic surgery. It’s worth the drive.

It’s not going to get better. It will continue to get worse and restrict your activities. Go get it fixed, you’ll be glad you did.

I just take a sharpie and put a line all the way around the "fake" egg so I know not to pick it up... the hens can't distinguish the difference.

Happy Sunday morning! It’s 33F degrees with a high of 55F today. I stayed outside almost all day yesterday in the chilly drizzle that came and went. Did. Not. Do. Taxes. I played with the Texas Five, walked the field with sheep and dogs, and built a dog platform in Ringo’s pen, that now will be Cooper’s pen. I’ll go to my journal and post pictures.

Cooper wasn’t raised with dogs and will butt them. He’s in the front yard with Carson and Carson has learned to stay out of his way. Carson can jump on the porch to escape from him.

I can’t put Buford in the night pen with the lambs, so he’s in what will now be Cooper’s pen. So I built a platform for Buford to jump up on the get away from Cooper. Only problem is, Buford can’t get up on it. He doesn’t know he can jump. Sigh…….

This morning is church, then maybe I’ll do taxes. Appointment is Wednesday, I’d better get on it.

Cool here today, upper 40. Only 37 now -- at least not freezing. But warm inside 👍 enjoying my coffee as I think about chores and whatever else.

Milking one doe...milk sharing with kid. Want her production to stay up as she'll be on milk line after weaning. Her sister has trips keeping her producing. In a short time I'll be moaning over how much there is need to call my soap lady to get her ready. Two drinking customers are ready for it. Thinking I need to increase price, like everything else!!

Hens are doing well. Eggs aplenty. Need to get working on the garden!!! We've had fairly heavy frosts 3 times the past week or so...should be over soon. But have done nothing toward growing food this year...gotta make that a priority. Will start harvest a little late but that's ok actually. Grow season is long here and work sched slows then. just no time early.

Today started at 28 degrees with a high of 50. A chilly north breeze and another freeze tonight. I’m using a knee brace and there is improvement. Ran a hot wire around the yard to end the dog excursions to the neighbor’s partially excavated dead horse. Most walkabouts are on our land thankfully. Hubbs fixed chicken coop door and I started operation Mustard. I noticed two egg breakers. Also rummaging through tool box for a hatchet. As elderly bantams there’s not going to be much in the way of meat. I hate the waste but I’m about through fooling with this flock. On the bright side I can contemplate Barnvelders and Marans which I’ve had before.

The horse is visited by hogs who lack the manners to cover it when they’re done. It’s out of sight and my dogs feel compelled to pop over the fence and pee on it. Then they stroll leisurely to neighbor’s pond and have a swim. They have their own pond but nope. Thanks for the Dr referral. I’m trying rest and weight loss. Too many hobbits in my family tree to make that easy but I have good motivation My place is very hilly, a big change from the previous ranch. I fear the Indian summer I enjoyed health wise is about over. I hope not. Well that was gloomy. The knee is a bit better. Steady as she goes Captain.
