Hi all,

We have a ND doe (possibly pregnant) and 2 ND wethers. The doe is 18 months old and the wethers are 5 months. We have a permanent fence up for them, but we primarily got them for brush control and I have some questions about electric fencing. Mainly, what are your best tips for utilizing electric fencing? Our brush area is extensive, and I almost feel that I would have to clear out an area to run fence through to make a loop. Anyway, I'd love to get some feedback on what type of fencing you went with, how you managed putting it in your brush area (if you have the same problem!), and any other tips that you'd be willing to share. Thanks in advance!

I use the poly wire (not tape) with the standoffs that attach to the t-posts. We have a DC charger that runs off of a 12v battery that we keep charged with a solar panel. We had to clear tree branches in some places as the wire can't touch anything. The grounding rods are probably the most important thing, we have three of them and they are about 3-4 feet in the ground, the deeper the better.

Probably the best tip that I learned about 5 years too late is that you can use those step in post to put in anywhere that the permanent fence is not straight and the hot wire touches the fence. Just poke one of those little fiberglass post into the ground in the trouble spot and it will keep the wire off of the fence. You can also use them to go around trees if you don't want to attach a standoff to the tree.
