The trip home was interesting. Neither my friend who wanted to make sourdough nor the one I was going to have dinner with checked their texts so we didn’t get together before I had to leave. Randy’s oldest brother (satan’s azzhole) was bringing his next brother (different) to the pharmacy off the freeway and I am bringing him back with me for the summer (yay! Maybe some help, maybe someone to converse with, but probably not. He’s quieter than Randy and it takes him 5 min to think of what he wants to say…)
So I spent a day and a half with my friend Wendy (who’s daughter stole my silver halter) and her husband and 95 yr old father in law.
We had so much fun! She’s got a couple medical conditions but keeps going like an energizer bunny. They have a female Lhasa Apso who hates everyone. They also don’t have a fenced yard so Boone was literally tied to me by my elasticized leash for 2 days. He tried rushing at Katy the dog and she took offense . But it was love at first sight 💕 for him. He finally laid down quietly and quit pulling in the leash but took every opportunity to try and sneak closer to her over the next 2 days. She was quiet vocal about it as she is very much a Karen.
He’d make mooney eyes at her, serenade her with whoooowoooos, and once he pretended to be sleeping in the kitchen and I had to pee so I unclipped him. He made a beeline in his fastest walk with Mike and I in pursuit. He made it to the couch, where his love was in repose and passionately sniffed and kissed her everywhere. Katy froze, absolutely still and silent. I got Boone’s leash, Mike picked up Katy from behind the couch and a minute later began screaming and yapping. I assume it was a delayed reaction from being molested. From that point on, Boone was obsessed with Katy and is suffering from unrequited love. I’m certain that given time, he’d win her paw. They adore Boone. He was super good, following me everywhere to the point I had to see if we were still hooked up, because there was never any pressure or pulling. He laid down at the table while we ate, entertained everyone after, and became terribly concerned when Wendy choked on pineapple juice. He was all over her. He did get loose and sneak into Papi’s room. They said since his wife died a few months ago, he’s been lost and says he just wants to die. I was terribly concerned when Boone snuk in his room and bothered him, but he made Papi smile and he and I became good friends overnight. He told me about the war and his Morgan horse, he held both my hands and said goodbye the night before I left. I gave him a bunch of my soft peppermints and told him I would be back to see him in July

The next day started auspiciously. I was up early got all our stuff in the back of Bob the pickup, leaving room for Tom’s stuff. I got to the drugstore in time to go inside and get athletic tape to wrap my hand, wrist and thumb that was giving me grief as my brace was packed where I couldn’t get to it. As I walked out, they pulled up in front of me. Perfect timing. I was putting the trash in container. Boone had been off his food all week because of the heat, except in Tehachapi, which was beautiful. The hills were green, the oak trees all around, wildlife everywhere, but because he was off his feed, he wasn’t defecating. I tried for 2 days to get him to poop, with no success. As Tim the azzhole pulled up, Boone stepped in front of me. I was looking at them so I missed that Boone had just taken a Guinness Record worthy sh&t and I stepped forward and splooshed right into the middle of it. Once I could deal with the trauma we took off into the sunrise of another beautiful day. The sky turned dark. The wind went wild. Over the next twelve hours the wind blew hard enough to make truck&trailers sway, it rained so hard the wipers couldn’t keep up for miles at a time, it turned to sleet, snow, back to rain the whole 12 hr of driving. Tom doesn’t drive so it was just me as I white knuckled my way past one accident only to watch a truck pass me then run another truck off the road in front of us. I wasn’t the only one with white knuckles as Tom lives in town where you only go 25-30 and the hwy home was 70 and 80 mph the entire trip. My trusty Bob (my truck) got us to the ranch where there was a both a break in the storm and a rainbow. I’m gonna take it as an omen!

Oh man - that Boone - he knows stuff. What a good boy, and a great trip for him. Sneaking into Papi's room - that dog he is very special and knew he was needed there. Good boy!!
Sorry about the sourdough learning didn't happen - but July would be good to do it then. Love that you're planning another trip. Hopefully you'll get some help with Tom.
You had me laughing with Boone's Guiness Worthy 💩 (and this morning I did the same with an Obi pile -- that he'd put down where it shouldn't be -- steps down away from the barn).

Happy to hear that you got home safe, and Boone being such a Good Boy.

@Mini Horses and I could take a once in a lifetime "bucket list trip".... actually commercial horse transport would be cheaper, and they have all the insurance and stuff... since that is what they do.....

At Mister's age, I would hesitate shipping him across the country...

I don't know anything about how to go about making those kind of arrangements... I know that @rachels.haven has had goats shipped and @secuono also has sheep shipped . @Mini Horses was into showing her mini's for years and traveled all over... and @Palomino also has show animals and has all sorts of connections with horse shipping.

What about where Boone originally came from? Many LGD breeders will take back their "offspring" to rehome to a place they would work. Boone has not been exposed to sheep and goats though. Not saying he would not be good at it... but his talents have been directed in a different direction so would take a little retraining...

Well, things to think about but don't think it is something that you need to consider imminent... you will still be around "grousing" about Randy and his normal self for a long time....and we will be commiserating and laughing at the antics there...
I know a horse shipper from Brogue,PA, 2 hours from me. I used her to ship my herd. Good lady as far as I can see. IDK how far she goes on her routes but bug me if you need info. I don't always check my "tags" as often as I should.

Randy says he’s going to wake Tom up in the morning and start him taking down all the dead hollyhocks in the yard. That will help me a lot! I’m seriously short on dogfood and we don’t go to town until Monday. Planning to use Fen so Boone doesn’t have to suffer through another long drive. It’ll be fun. He’s been much more affectionate with me since I straightened him out as a Service Dog. I think he likes having an actual job as opposed to just hanging out at the shop doing nothing at all.

Welp, it’s cold and raining. My joints are bitchy and sore. Randy went to wake Tom as I made sourdough waffles for breakfast but he injured his back getting up to use the bathroom last night :he
I hope to breed one of the rabbits on the first nice day, I just need someone to make sure I don’t fall as I have to climb on a cement block to reach them. Tom should be sufficiently well enough to help me process by the time they are freezer ready.
Day off today due to pain levels. Going to town Monday with Fen so Boone doesn’t have to take the long drive after our 12 hr trip home.
