Ugh! After researching guess I’m not getting a Golden, either! $4000 for a pup from a reputable breeder that does genetic testing.
A rescue is about $800 and that was a dog born with only 50% vision!
Oh well. I can’t afford to feed a third dog anyway.

Super violent t-storm last night. Woke up to a crack so loud I thought a tree came through the roof! Both dogs wound up in our bed seeking solace. . If Heath was alive he would have been a wreck. These guys did ok after awhile.
Pain appt Mon for an injection in my other hip. Hope it helps!

Fenny woke me up with kisses this morning. That was a big surprise but not unwelcome. Boone joined us afterwards for the morning cookie party which seems to have become a habit

Fen comes with to pain management tomorrow for hip injection. I’ll have to use wheelchair to get there but hoping I won’t need it afterwards!

Much easier to sleep now after both hips have been injected. Randy was laughing at the Dr’s technique, where he would press on a spot and make me yelpand say “does that hurt?” Then press in another spot that drove me through the ceiling and said , “ does that hurt worse?” You could tell he damned well knew it would!
It’s always a joy when the shot is going to be so icky they numb the area with lidocaine before giving it. I’m glas they don’t just jam the needle in the joint like they used to. They did that to my knee as a kid and it was so painful I passed out twice. This, just felt like Tinkerbell did a touch and go landing. 🛬

From past experience, how much relief do you normally get? How long does it last?

My mother had similar shots 2x in the knee "she could never" make time for its replacement. One gave her 4-6 wks of comfort, then less effects for another couple weeks. Second, only a couple weeks total. So we never got more, wasn't effective for her. It's different for each person, so I hear.

I had ONE shot in my hip because I was "too young" for hip replacement. I had a week or so of relief, then it was worse and I felt my hip was now unstable. My second opinion surgeon explained that shots are okay in open joints, like knees and elbows, but NEVER should be used in a closed joint, like the hip. The steroid actually accelerates the rate of degeneration as it cannot exit the area.

@fuzzi is right... except that steroid - cortisone - injections will deteriorate any joint/bone that it is used on after a time... I have had 3 different doctors tell me the same thing except that it will do damage to any joint... and should never be done more than twice for relief.
I tried them as a last resort for some relief knowing that I was getting the knees replaced... and they gave me nothing for any relief. Hoping for 6 months longer... and I just lived with the pain for the time until I had the replacements done.

The first one is still working after a month. It was in a different spot, and that is the hip that was replaced. Idk how long they will last. I’m just grateful to be out of the agony. Both times the injection is where was the most painful spot he pressed on
