Gizmo napped on my chest for an hour this morning. I think I have figured out why I am so stiff every morning!

I ordered a little “scent training kit” for Boone. He LOVES it!! Lately he’s been getting really bored because I’ve been practically paralyzed by pain and can’t interact with him. The little scent pillows have been a lifesaver. I csn hide them anywhere. Under my blankets in the bedroom, in planters, on tables full of foofarah, anywhere. He’s VERY thorough in his search and so pleased with himself when he finds it and brings it to me. It also seems to wear him out. He’s good for 3 searched then he melts into a puddle of dog and sleeps for hours ❤️

Fun stuff!! I set up a search for Sage the other day - 51 containers and three had odors she has been trained for.

That’s so awesome! I’ve never done anything that complex, or taught him a proper alert (I would have to get up) but both Fen and Boone love using their noses. 2 of Fen’s relatives are SARs.
What has amazed me though, is the things Boone searches for. I have used random items, often switching them. I just show them, give it a name, lock him up and hide it. He finds and carries it to me, while learning what I call it at the same time. Then if it’s something I need later he knows what to look for without having to give him Left/Right/backup instructions, although those are very handy to get him to bring something different. I just wait til he touches it and give him a yes.
I really believe most of the dogs in the world are underestimated as to their true potential. I think of all the dogs I’ve had in my life and wonder what we might have accomplished!

Your 51 box set up is awesome and your dog is really impressive!!!

It was a struggle but tonight I managed (with his help) to make the Cranberry Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas, spanish rice and beans. There was enough filling for a whole nuther meal so I froze it.
Dinner was good.
Pain is bad.
Dogs were too demanding today.

The murder trial I was a juror on had a cadaver dog brought in. The woman and her dog were through Texas Parks and Wildlife, she is a game warden. I sure didn't know that Texas Parks and Wildlife had cadaver dogs. The dog was trained to sit when he found evidence of a dead person. I knew there are cadaver dogs, I was just surprised that game wardens have them.

@peteyfoozer - I didn't teach Sage that alert behavior - it is one she offered as a young pup and I just encouraged/went with it. Dogs are sooo underestimated, what they can do is amazing.
Obi learned on his own to bring me everyone's bowl when they were done eating - first time he picked one up and handed it to me - told him "thank you" and gave him a treat. The rest is history. Now he runs and grabs my shoe when I take off my boots ---- he has quickly become a pick up master --- all for a "thank you" and a treat.
@Baymule - way cool about the cadaver dog from the trial! That is fantastic -- in both first someone asking for a cadaver dog and then the use of of him/her. Not all dogs can do the cadaver work as the scent of death actually can scare some dogs.

My baby dog climbed up in my lap this morning to beg for cookies. He’s slightly jealous of Gizmo being up here all the time. It felt so good on my legs!
