Ridgetop
Herd Master
I deleted my post. He lived through the night so I didn't kll him. I guess that means I will forgive him his ill advised remark about needing to "pull my weight".
To go back to the other stuff that happened yesterday, the rental tractor arrived. I took DH to the doctor about the incision that kept opening. The doctor took a culture and put him on antibiotics for a month. He has to go back in 2 weeks to see if it starts to close up. If it opens up more the surgeon will open it up again, remove the edges of the skin that has healed and restitch him.
We got home and I collected the painting equipment from the shed for painting the Conex. DS1 started painting the reflective cooling glop on it. DH started mowing. On y way out to help DS1 with teh paintng I heard a crashing noise nd looked over to see DH near the electric fence. He hit a post and the wires snapped. I yelled at him (which he couldn't hear) and he continued to drive off on the tractor. I ran out to check the fence. At least 3 wires snapped. I called for DS1 who tod e to turn off the charger and came over to see what was wrong. I told him that DH had broken the electric fence. Much bad language and name calling of DH ensued from both of us. I He waited to catch DH on his lap around the field. Apparently, there was a bush that DH wanted to pull out instead of mowing down so he backed the tractor and mower to go around it. He hit a PVC post and broke it a wel as snapping the wires. More name calling and DS1 checked the mower and tractor for damage. Tractor and mower were fine, DH startd mowing again, and DH went to get his tools to repair the fence. I took over painting the Conex.
2+ hours later DS1 had replaced the PVC post that DH had broken, spliced the wires, and tightened them. He said it was lucky that he used high tensile wire since it stretched and he didn't have to splice any extra pieces of wire in. He turned on the fence. Then he checked and tightened the other fence. At least we had moved the ewes and ram out of that pasture so the two flocks didn't mingle. After spending some time searching for the painter's benches to stand on to reach the top, I had finished putting a second coat on one side of the Conex, painted one end, and most of the other side. As I was finishing the last quarter standing on the painter's benches I started getting dizzy. Holding on to the rake I was using to help me climb onto the benches, I managed to get down and sit. About then DS1 came back and finished the job. We decided to stop since it was about 6pm. We cleaned up the tools, and DS1 went to get the tools he had used on the fence and put them away. DH was finishing the second pasture.
I came in and did a load of towels and put the sheets in the drier. Then I started supper. DH came in to take a shower, He yelled at me to bring him a towel. They were in the bathroom linen closet. Then he sat in his recliner and moaned about how tired he was. I served DH and DS1 supper while I made the bed with the clean sheets while they were eating. I moved the towels to the drier, then I cleaned the sink, did the dishes and put the leftovers away. I finally went to take a shower.
DH was yelling for me to come and watch Big Bang. A couple weeks ago we started watching Young Sheldon episodes. I had not seen most of the episodes because I had been packing and unpacking for the past several years. We watched the entire 7 seasons of YS, then started Big Bang from the beginning. I watched a couple episodes then got myself a small dish of ice cream. I did not bring any for DH. Usually I bring our daily dishes of ice cream while watching our programs at night but I was still very upset with him about that "pulling my own weight" remark from the morning.
Today I have to go grocery shopping at Brookshires. They have Blue Bell on sale for half price and DS1 wants to come along to get sodas on sale. We'll pick up DH's prescriptions at the same time.
Last Monday we emptied the large freezer and moved it from the back porch where it gets full sun in the afternoon into the carport where it is in full shade. Still outside but it is a garage freezer with extra insulation and shielding, supposedly. I laid a large moving pad on the carpet and we carried the baskets of food in and placed them on it. I covered the pile of food with a blanket to hold in the cold. DS1 hosed the freezer out and moved it over to the carport. We had Brian put an electric outlet in the carport for it a week ago. DS1 plugged it in and I sorted through the frozen food inside. There were two containers of Blue Bell in the bottom that had melted when Annabel climbed behind the freezer and unplugged it for 2 days. They had melted onto a lot of the packages of food. Those all had to be washed off and dried before replacing them. I put the dviders back in the bottom of the freezer and started lugging the stuff back to the freezer. We found 2 turkeys, 2 whole hams, a pork shoulder, 2 small rib roasts, four 7 lb. briskets, and some other large cuts that all went in the bottom. DH helped carry the 25 lb. turkeys. On top of the motor shelf I put the goat milk and colostrum. Once the bottom layer was in I put in the lower baskets and filled them. 96 chicken enchiladas packed 6 in a bag, bags of assorted nuts and candied fruits for baking, small meat cuts, etc. Only one packge of meat showed any freezer burn. I will trim that off today and if the meat isn't good, the dogs will have 2 days of feasting. Finally I put the upper baskets in and sorted the rest of the food into those. One nice thing about emptying the freezer completely and moving it was that I was able to sort the different categories of food into the same baskets. I also cleaned and emptied the fridge freezer, sorted and repacked it. Good news! - don't need any more frozen meat and now have plenty of room for Blue Bell! LOL In the carport the freezer is shaded, Annabel can't unplug it, and instead of going through the living room to get frozen food I go out the kitchen door.
DS1 is looking at buying a hand held power auger now. He wants to put in the shelters for the sheep as soon as he finishes two more pastures. They need to go in before winter for the rain. He also said that the tractor auger makes too wide a hole and he has to back fill too much. With a smaller diameter auger bit he can just drop the post in on top of the gravel and back fill with the concrete.
