@RR Homestead We finally finished the coins and game for my sil, she loved it.

The top comes completely off, it's held together with magnets.

Filling flasks with plaster.

This is a kiln that came with the glass studio I bought. I wasn't using it, so I gave it to my son. After the plaster has set up for about two hours, you have to burn out the resin wax. That takes about 13 hrs. With ramps up to 1350° and then ramp down to between 200-300°. This doesn't show the filled flasks, we were just dry fitting.

While the flasks are still at around 200°, we pour in the pewter. It was under a vacuum.

Working on getting the plaster off of the coin trees. I was also cutting the coins off on this one with a pair of dikes as I went.

These are the first 3 trees we did. We made a total of 5.

Coins in the tumbler for a little bit of polishing. We decided not to electroplate them.

It was a very involved and interesting process. I'm glad it's finished. Couldn't have done this without my son

What a milking tonight. Juggling act for sure but all in all a great report to share.
Got about 3/4 of a gallon from the heifer tonight. She's already past colostrum. The 2 calves are doing well on her. Shockingly I didn't need the kick bar tonight. Did not expect that. Hopefully she continues to get even better. How she's doing is even better for the first couple days than her mother who has been a dream. I'll never live it down if DH's baby is the best we've had to date. :hide
Our main milker has the 3 calves with her. One for sure is still overeating. 🤦‍♀️Treating for it and hoping it doesn't turn back into sickness. I really need to get them all out on pasture but need to be sure they are all healthy and that she's letting them all nurse without me standing there. Once one gets sick (during the grafting time) she refuses to feed it without me standing there telling her to be nice. Sometimes we have to start from scratch again with the grafting once it's healthy. So it's a bit of extra work to make sure all is well again.
Guess I'd better finish cleaning the milker so I can finish chores. Will be time to treat the calves about the time I'm done with chores.
Heard from previous owners a bit ago. They are such a blessing to us. They sent pictures of the house with all the snow. Some were blurry but we can still see how pretty it is. They struggle with pictures. It's adorable. They turned the well off but I forgot to ask about the ice machine. I'll have to text them again in the morning. When I remembered they didn't say anything about it they were already in bed I'm sure with the time change. I just hope it doesn't burn itself up if it's run out of water. They did say everything was great there and no damage. Praise the Lord and so thankful they were willing to go get it ready for the storm. Blessings all around.
Hope you all have a fantastic day! :hugs

Up since 5....it's been an interesting morning. A disaster of sorts, explained in "January freeze" thread. 9* here...yes, a belongs in Alaska 9 degrees.

Having my second cup. Then, change clothes & head to barn with hopeful thoughts. Animals are all fine, fed & watered. 🥰

This is a really bad winter! Thankfully, still have power.

It isn't in the negatives right now!!!! Warmest it's been in a couple mornings, 0 out.
Baby chicks hatch in my classroom today hopefully. I've seen it plenty but it's always fun to watch and I'm really excited for the kids to watch. Heading in early to check the incubator.

@drstratton that is very impressive work!!!

It is white with ice outside. I booted Mabelline and Tinkerbelle outside after I gave them their bottles and cleaned the dog crate. It gets gross overnight. They pee and poop all night. Mabelline is now old enough to go outside, but I just can't being myself to leave them out all night. I've got to get up and get outside.
